Knit Repair and Care Workshop

Learn how to take care of your knitwear to keep you cosy all winter long!

5.5 hours

Class size 1 to 10 (public classes), 5 to 16

  £40 - £70 (£40 for Concession; £55 for General; £70 for Pay-in-forward)

The colder months are coming, and it's important to take care of our knitwear to keep us cosy for many seasons to come! In this one-day workshop in Bristol, you'll learn how to mend and darn your knitwear.
We'll also teach you how to look after it and share our best tips to make your items last and give you warmth and comfort for a long time.
You'll learn:
  • Multiple darning and mending techniques specific to knitwear
  • Best practices and tips to look after your knits
  • How to make a little lavender bag for your closet to keep the moths away
This workshop will be great for all sorts of knitwear -- jumpers, cardigans, socks. We'd especially recommend woollen items. Really fine knit will make it more difficult to try some of the repair techniques, so we recommend something at least slightly chunkier.
Rethrindle's aim is to make sewing inclusive and accessible to everyone. This is why we try to make our workshops as affordable as possible. A limited number of concession spaces are available for each of our workshops.
If you can, please consider getting a pay-it-forward ticket - every pay-it-forward ticket purchased enables us to offer another concession space for someone who needs it.
What you'll get
  • The chance to try out a variety of mending and darning techniques.
  • Repair up to 2 items of your own and make a little lavender bag for your closet.
  • Take away lots of good tips for looking after your knits!

Rethrindle CIC is a social enterprise run by Meret and Lisa. Our mission is to upskill Bristol in sewing and mending and promote a creative approach to caring for your clothes. We are female-run, queer and neurodivergent, which informs our practices and workshops. We run the Slow Fashion Studio, a workshop space, reclaim shop and repair studio based in Sparks, Bristol. We host clothing repair and upcycling workshops and offer repair and alteration services alongside our shop selling reclaimed fabrics and haberdashery.
In our workshops, our focus lies on letting your creativity roam free, helping you engage with your clothes differently and, of course, sharing with you our skills and many years of experience in sewing and mending.
Meret started Rethrindle in 2023. She has been sewing since she was a teenager and has a degree in fashion design and a master's in social entrepreneurship. Rather than creating her own fashion brand and producing clothes, Meret decided that she wanted to share her skills locally and encourage mending and creativity. In 2025, she was joined by Lisa, founder of the Brand Rebel Patch, and together they aim to create an inclusive space for the Bristol community to learn, create and inspire one another. Between the two of them, they have upskilled over 400 people in mending and sewing and have gained and passed on a variety of textile skills.
