I’ve always been creative and drawn to making things, but Katie’s Craft House really grew out of my love for working with children and seeing how powerful creativity can be for confidence and wellbeing. What started as small workshops and parties gradually turned into something much bigger, and I realised there was a real need for a space where Adults and children could explore art without pressure, judgement or screens.
The pivotal moment for me was seeing how even the most nervous or reluctant customers completely open up once they felt safe to create. Watching someone go from “I’m not good at art” to proudly showing what they’ve made is incredibly rewarding, and that’s what made me want to build a business around it.
It’s not just about crafts – it’s about giving people time, space and permission to be creative.
For me, teaching isn’t about perfection or rules – it’s about encouraging people to try, experiment and enjoy the process. I love seeing confidence grow, especially in children who think they “can’t do it”. Helping someone discover a skill or passion they didn’t know they had is one of the best feelings.
It’s also incredibly grounding. Being in a room full of people creating, chatting and laughing feels very special in a world that’s often too rushed and digital.
Most people think craft is just about making something pretty, but it’s actually a powerful tool for emotional wellbeing. Creating with your hands can reduce stress, build confidence and help people express things they can’t always put into words – especially children.
Something people might not realise about me is that I’m just as passionate about the emotional side of creativity as the practical side. I pay close attention to how people feel in my sessions – who needs encouragement, who needs space, and who just needs to chat while they work.
Katie’s Craft House isn’t just a business to me – it’s a community space. A place where people can slow down, feel safe to be themselves, and leave feeling proud of what they’ve made
