Let your child (aged 10 to 17) join this fun pottery workshop in Colindale, where they will learn how to craft a unique mirror from raw clay.
In our bright, professionally equipped ceramics studio, experienced tutor Jo will guide your child through each step of this exciting activity over two relaxing hours. They'll start by learning the fundamentals of slab building before exploring a fantastic range of decorative techniques – discovering how to:
  • Sculpt cool details by hand
  • Use sprig moulds for raised designs
  • Impress interesting patterns using stamps, fabrics, or leaves
  • Print onto the clay
  • Apply colourful underglaze
  • Try sgraffito (carving through the colour to reveal the clay beneath)
This creative workshop welcomes all skill levels within the age range in a friendly, supportive environment. With a maximum of eight students per session, your child will receive personalised guidance as they learn proper clay handling and decorative methods, working at their own pace with expert demonstrations. Everything your child needs for the activity is provided, from the clay and tools to the final glazing and firing, which our team handles after the workshop.
It's a wonderfully rewarding experience for a young person to design and build their own functional piece of art from scratch. Your child will leave the workshop feeling proud, eagerly anticipating the collection of their beautifully finished ceramic mirror!
Important notes:
  • Please be aware that a minimum of 3 participants (aged 10 to 17) are required for this workshop to proceed.
  • After the class, your child's completed mirror frame will be carefully fired and glazed by the studio team, fitted with a safe, high-quality perspex mirror and a hanging ribbon. It will be ready for collection from our Colindale studio in approximately 4 weeks.
  • Tutor Jo holds a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate and has over fifteen years of experience working happily and safely with children and teenagers.
  • For parents and carers who wish to stay nearby, there's a communal area available on site during the workshop.
