Learn how to capture the fleeting beauty of botanicals in a permanent work of art during this plaster casting workshop. This calming and creative activity teaches you a unique process where the properties of plaster replicate every frond, filament, and leaf in exquisite detail.
In this session, you will learn all the basics of this fascinating craft. Your friendly guide will show you how to:
  • Roll a clay slab to the perfect thickness
  • Arrange and press your chosen flowers and plants into the clay
  • Remove the botanicals to leave behind a beautiful and detailed impression
  • Pour plaster into your prepared mould to cast your design
After your piece has been cast, you can relax with a glass of wine while the plaster sets. Once it's ready, we will remove the clay to reveal your incredible design, which will then be cleaned and prepared for you to take home and display.
A selection of plants and flowers will be provided, but please feel free to bring along special items from your own garden if you’d like to make your design even more personal.
You’ll leave the workshop with a renewed perspective on nature's artistry and a stunning, intricate casting that is ready to adorn your home.
What you'll get
  • All materials and equipment are provided.
  • You will take away a personalised botanical plaster cast of your design to display in your home, measuring approximately 30cm in diameter.
  • Glass of wine or alcohol-free option provided for all students.

Hi, I’m Jen, a plaster artist based in Liverpool. I first discovered botanical plaster casting while looking for a new sculpting technique to reflect my love for the natural world. My work has always centered around nature whether through paint, print or sculpture and I quickly fell in love with plaster. Flowers and plants so often represent celebration, commemoration and reflection in our lives, I love capturing the detail of them in permanent works of art that can be treasured forever.
Teaching this technique to others is a lovely aspect of my practice and I learn as much from my student’s discovery of the method as they enjoy the process. I have a background in training and can create classes to suit all ages and abilities and to suit any occasion.
