'Intro to Printmaking' Mini Course

In this brand new, 3-week mini-course, you will learn multiple printmaking techniques, including drypoint and mono printing. This course is designed for beginners to give you an insight into the basics of printmaking, which can be developed across multiple processes.Week 1:Learn the basics of drypoint etching—an adapted version of traditional etching where designs are scratched into the surface of metal and etched using an acid bath. For this, we will be using plastic plates that can be inked up and printed through a press.Week 2:In the second week, we will build on our skills learned in week 1 and experiment with recycled materials. These will be provided, but you can also bring some things to try out! We will also introduce embossing into this process by shaping and adding materials in the pressing stage to create depth in our prints.Week 3:In our final week, we will try out a new process: trace monoprinting. Within this, you will use your skills with registration and mark-making to create a multi-coloured print. Prints made in previous weeks can be developed and added to using this process.This is a completely beginner-friendly course in which we encourage people of all abilities to join us. You will be guided every step of the way, whilst also being able to take your own creative approach to develop your style week by week.
