Intermediate Knitting Workshop – Make a Fingerless Mitten

Learn lace, Fair Isle, cables, and shaping – in this technique-rich mitten workshop.

6 hours Class size 3 to 8 guests       £120 (PayPal Pay in 3 available)

Learn beautiful new techniques while knitting a bold and colourful fingerless mitten — a satisfying project that combines learning with making.
In this full-day intermediate workshop, you’ll create a single statement mitt using lace, traditional Fair Isle colourwork, cables, and shaping. You’ll start with a tubular cast-on for a polished edge and be guided step by step through reading different types of charts and building the design stitch by stitch.
By the end of the day, you'll have finished one mitten and be equipped with the skills, confidence, and materials to complete its pair at home.
You’ll learn how to:
  • Work a tubular cast-on
  • Read and follow colourwork, lace, and cable charts
  • Knit traditional Fair Isle colourwork
  • Knit simple cable patterns
  • Shape a thumb gusset
  • Use decorative cast-offs and tidy finishing techniques
We’ll take a short lunch break during the day – feel free to bring your own or visit one of the lovely nearby cafés and bakeries.
What you'll get
  • Yarn to make a full pair of mittens
  • Printed pattern and chart guide
  • 5mm straight needles to use (or bring your own)
  • Full-day expert instruction
  • Tea, biscuits, and a warm, creative atmosphere
Knowledge required
  • You should be confident with casting on, knitting and purling
  • No experience with lace, cables, or Fair Isle is required — we’ll guide you
What to bring
Everything is provided, but you’re welcome to bring your own 5mm needles
