A 5 week lettercarving course in Cambridge with Tim Brookes

This lettercarving course will offer a comprehensive introduction for beginners that will encompass learning to select, prepare, and understand wood, how to choose your carving tools and which to use for which purposes, painting, finishing, and displaying.
You don't need any experience to join -- this course is set up specifically for beginners and you'll learn in a supportive environment throughout the week.
What to expect:
  • Enjoy expert teaching from Tim Brookes, founder of the Endangered Alphabets Project.
  • Each day runs morning to afternoon, with structured teaching followed by hands-on practice.
  • You'll work through the fundamentals of lettercarving, understanding wood grain and selecting appropriate timbers.
  • Learn how to hold and control a chisel before moving into your own project.
By the end of five weeks, you should have developed the drawing, carving, painting, and finishing skills necessary to create a finished monogram or similar carving, roughly 20 cm by 20 cm.
What you'll get
  • All instruction and materials which includes wood, sandpaper, paints, paintbrushes, and masks.
  • A set of carving tools will be provided on loan, but may also be purchased. (You're welcome to bring your own).
  • Tea, coffee and lunch provided by a local café.
