This is a beginner level day-workshop, aimed at people who have not painted in acrylics before or not in a representational way.
We will copy a landscape painting, and you will be guided through each step, and on the way you'll learn about colours and colour mixing.
The session will be run by Bill Guilding. Bill has painted all his life, and has been teaching drawing and painting part-time for over 10 years. As an artist he has carried out several commissioned public mural paintings.
Bill’s broad experience of art-making varied in terms of style, media and skill feeds into his teaching, enabling him to support (and challenge!) students, who of course come with a variety of artistic aims and inclinations.
What you'll get
Acrylic painting paper will be provided by the tutor.
Knowledge required
Beginner-friendly
What to bring
Students should bring student-quality acrylic paint in the following 5 colours as a minimum:
Ultramarine Blue
Cadmium Yellow Hue
Cadmium Red Hue
Phthalo Green
Titanium White.
An optional extra colour would be a dark brown, but not essential. Bristol Fine Art has the lowest price for 60ml tubes of acrylic paint.
The tutor can lend you paint-brushes, but you are welcome to bring your own; ranging from a fine pointed 2mm brush to a broad 25mm brush. Water-colour brushes are often a little too soft.
A white dinner plate or piece of melamine will serve as a palette. Or we can lend you a palette but ours are no longer white. Or you can buy one, about 10 or 12 inches long.
Bring an old shirt. Acrylic paint doesn't wash off.
