Hi there! I’m Hetty, and I’m passionate about the art of shoe making and empowering others to explore their creativity. My journey began when I fell in love with the beauty of bespoke craftsmanship and the endless possibilities of turning simple materials into something extraordinary. I used to take shoes apart as a child to see how they were made. After studying footwear at the London College of Fashion, I launched Hetty Rose Shoes—a place where art, sustainability, and individuality converge.
One special moment for me was discovering how vintage kimono fabrics could breathe new life into shoes. I got lost on my bike in Japan and found the most beautiful fabrics in second hand kimono stores. It was a game-changer, blending my love for sustainability with a deep appreciation for tradition and storytelling I began making shoes using these vintage Japanese kimono fabrics. I knew I wanted to share this unique process with others and help them create pieces that are as meaningful as they are beautiful.
Teaching has been a natural extension of my craft. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of guiding many of students through the shoe making process, from complete beginners to aspiring professionals. Every workshop is a chance to witness the magic of transformation—not just of materials but of confidence and creativity in my students.
Something many people don’t realise about shoe making is just how meditative and rewarding it can be. There’s a certain joy in crafting something both functional and personal—shoes are such an intimate part of our lives. I love showing people that you don’t need fancy equipment or years of experience to create something amazing. All you need is curiosity and a willingness to try.
I’ve been fortunate to have my work featured in Vogue, Elle and Glamour, and while these honours are meaningful, what truly excites me is the connection I build with each student. My workshops are about more than just making shoes—they’re about sharing stories, learning new skills, and walking away (literally!) with something you’re proud to have made.
I can’t wait to welcome you into the world of shoe making—let’s create something extraordinary together!
