Gather your friends or colleagues for this hands-on pottery workshop at Terra Cafe in Stokes Croft, Bristol, where you can try both hand-building and throwing on the wheel. This creative activity is a fantastic way to connect, slow down, and collaborate away from the usual routines.
Perfect for small teams or friendship groups, this three-hour session offers the best of both worlds. You will learn how to throw on the potter's wheel with guidance from an experienced teacher, and you'll also explore hand-building techniques. With the help of a friendly host and informative illustrated guides, you can create and underglaze a variety of items, such as a plant pot, butter dish, or oil burner.
This private workshop includes:
  • A three-hour session for three to six people
  • An expert-taught 'throwing on the wheel' experience
  • A guided hand-building and underglazing session
  • Exclusive use of the pottery room with all clay, glazes, tools, and aprons provided
You can also purchase a range of refreshments from the cafe to enjoy during your session. The menu includes speciality coffees, teas, and soft drinks, as well as delicious cakes and vegan-friendly pastries from local bakeries.
You are also welcome to bring your own alcohol to the workshop, and there are plenty of prosecco flutes available for your use.

What you'll get
2 to 3 hand-thrown items that will be fired twice & clear glazed by our team (or alternatively you can 'Come Back & Glaze' to use our specialist glazes to finish your thrown pieces.
1 hand-built piece that you will have underglazed (painted) in your session which will be fired twice by our team then clear glazed to be made food safe.

FAQ

How long do I wait to collect my pottery & what times can I collect?
It can take up to 6 weeks for your creation to be fired twice by our team and clear glazed. Please collect from 6 weeks after your session. There is no need to message or email, it will be definitly be ready to collect after 6 weeks. Please have a photo of your piece ready to show us on arrival for a speedy collection. Please also bring wrapping or something to protect your pot with you. The best time to collect is during our cafe opening hours: Wednesday to Sunday: 9am - 2pm Pots not collected within 3 months of your initial booking will be added to our 'free to collect' shelf & will find new homes. So pots must be collected on time, to avoid disapointment. For ‘Come Back & Glaze’ collect two weeks after your glazing session. You have one month in total collect from your glazing session.
Do you offer postage?
We can post your pottery pieces to you for a fee if you are unable to collect.
Do you have parking?
We do not have parking in front of the cafe, as we are in the busy area of Stokes Croft. There is paid off street parking nearby but please factor finding parking into your timings before arriving. We would recommend travelling by bus, walking or getting the train to Montpelier Station (which is a 5 minute walk away).

We are three humans with a passion for ceramics and our local community, offering a creative and accessible pottery cafe within the heart of Stokes Croft, for families, friends and solo creators wanting to enjoy a new creative experience.
We provide affordable and unique pottery handbuilding sessions for all ages and abilities, and teach ‘on the wheel’ throwing lessons & 7 week throwing courses in Bristol. We also host crafty private events, including hen dos, birthday parties, corporate work dos & teambuilding!
We also sell locally handmade ceramics, including our own Terra Cafe collection, as well as other creations from local artists. The best bit is you can enjoy all of this alongside a mug of delicious coffee or a sweet or savoury treat from our Cafe area!
Your pots will be ready to collect from 6 weeks and you will have 3 months from Your class date to collect them :)
