3 hours

Class size 1 to 4 (public classes), 4 to 10
£115 (PayPal Pay in 3 available)

This half-day pottery workshop offers a practical introduction to wheel throwing, providing participants with the opportunity to develop core ceramic skills in a supportive studio environment. Suitable for complete beginners as well as those with some prior experience, the session focuses on the fundamental techniques used to create forms on the potter's wheel.
The workshop begins with studio owner-led demonstration, introducing the key stages of the throwing process and the tools used in the studio. Participants are then allocated their own wheel and guided through each stage, including centring clay, opening forms, pulling walls, shaping vessels, and finishing work.
With unlimited clay available throughout the session, learners can practise techniques repeatedly, experiment with different forms, and build confidence through hands-on experience. Experienced tutors provide individual guidance and feedback throughout, helping participants develop their skills and understanding of the wheel-throwing process.
At the end of the workshop, participants may select one piece to take home at no additional charge. Additional pieces can be kept for a small fee of £3 each. Work can be air-dried and decorated at home if desired.
Please note: Midweek workshops can be arranged for groups of fewer than five participants, subject to a minimum group charge.
