Pleasenote: I have added two afternoon spots for the Riverhouse Barn Arts Centre on 8th February. This is to learn how to stencil or decoupage a piece of furniture only but without the furniture painting. Please bring an already painted piece of furniture or I will provide you with something.
Learn how to transform a piece of pre-loved furniture at my fun and creative upcycling workshop in Walton-on-Thames on 8th February and in my new studio from March 2026 onwards (Shepperton, TW17). This hands-on activity is perfect for anyone aged sixteen and over who wants to learn a new, long-lasting skill. I welcome private groups as well which can include teenagers.
In a small group of no more than five, I will guide you through the entire process. The morning session is dedicated to preparation and painting. You'll learn how to correctly clean and sand your item and I’ll explain why I use Frenchic Paint. We'll then cover different painting techniques using both brushes and rollers.
After a break for lunch, the afternoon is all about adding decorative flair. I will teach you how to elevate your piece with beautiful techniques like stencilling and decoupage using napkins or rice paper. You'll have the chance to try them out before choosing one to add a stunning design, creating a true statement piece.
To make sure you have the best experience, please keep the following in mind:
  • What to bring – You will need to bring a small piece of wooden furniture, such as an occasional table, a small chair, or a wooden box.
  • Materials provided – I will provide a great selection of paints (15+ shades), stencil designs, napkins, brushes, rollers, and protective wear.
  • Special requests – If you would like to use decoupage transfers or decals, I will contact you before the workshop to discuss options, which I can order for you.
  • Lunch arrangements – We will break for lunch. You are welcome to purchase something from the on-site cafe or bring your own to enjoy in the courtyard.
You will go home with your beautifully updated piece of furniture and a wonderful sense of accomplishment. This workshop is designed to unlock your creative potential, giving you the skills and confidence to continue upcycling for years to come.
What you'll get

Hi!
I'm passionate about sustainability and upcycling and I also have a real love for anything mid-century modern. I've been teaching for 15 years and I was previously an Assistant Headteacher. During that time, I was responsible for teaching art across different year groups and developed a love for creativity.
I've upcycled many pieces of furniture including impressive looking pieces of Stag furniture, Harrops Better Furniture and many other mid century modern pieces from writing bureaus to dressers. I've also upcycled simple occasional tables and bedside tables.
I have used a variety of decorative effects for my furniture including stenciling, decoupage (both napkin decoupage and rice paper), furniture painting and wood effects to create truly stunning transformative pieces.
Three years ago, I had a cancer diagnosis. I wasn't going to be beaten and this spurred me on to follow a more creative path, hence my love of upcycling furniture and the Vintage Chic ReLoved was created. I'm delighted that I now have the opportunity to combine both my extensive teaching experience and knowledge of transforming pre-loved furniture into upcycling workshops aimed at creating a more sustainable circular economy.
My upcycling workshops are for everyone. They take place at Vintage Chic ReLoved, Ferry Point, Ferry Lane, Shepperton TW17 9LQ. It's a cosy riverside studio.
If you are moving house and feeling the pinch needing to create a welcoming home with existing furniture; to learning how to create a stunning, one of a kind piece as well as being conscious about sustainability and ecological impact, or you just love to be creative and crafty, then my workshops are for you.
If you have any questions at all or you just want to connect, please do drop me a line on here. I always love hearing from you and I love forward to meeting with you soon at one of my workshops.
Lots of Vintage Chic love
