Learn to Cut Glass
Once we have had a welcome talk and a cup of coffee, we will get straight into learning how to cut glass. You can have lots of practice before you are let loose on all the beautiful colours!
Choose Your Glass
Once you can cut glass, you will then need to choose the colours for your project. This is normally very hard as there are just too many wonderful sheets to narrow down!
Cut the Pieces to Size
Now you can get each piece cut to size. The colours look so beautiful together.
Edge the Pieces
After lunch, you can relax and edge each piece of glass with copper. It's a bit fiddley, but if you take your time looks great.
Time to Solder
After a safety talk, you will start to solder your panel. This is taught in a step by step process, so you do not have too much information overwhelming you. Soldering takes a long time, but will absorb you completely.
Applying the Patina
Once your panel is soldered, it now needs the finishing touch. Applying a black patina to the solder to make your glass colours really pop!
Be Proud of You Work
Time to look at all the panels and be very proud of yourself! You will have had a fantastic day, met lovely people and have a very special glass panel that will give you years of joy.

Angelina and Cathy met by chance whilst selling their work in Penarth, Christmas 2013. Their shared love of all things glass saw them develop a friendship and continue to work together.Their first idea was to develop an Open Studio trail for any local artist/crafter during the annual Penarth festival that following summer. It has fast become an established part of the festival and is developing year on year.They then joined a designer-maker section in a local Penarth shop where their customer base was steadily growing. Customers embraced the idea of bespoke, locally made pieces, rather than mass-produced imported ones that have saturated the marketplace.Their next logical step was to be able to work on-site and pass their love of the process of hand-making in glass to others. Hence, Glass By Design was born.
