In this hands-on session, Lichen will guide you through the process of transforming your creative ideas from paper to fabric. You will begin by sketching your own design before learning how to translate it into expressive stitched lines using a sewing machine. If you would prefer not to draw your own design, a selection of inspiring templates will be available to choose from, giving you plenty of ideas and a confident starting point.
Along the way, you will experiment with a variety of threads, colours, and textures to bring your design to life in stitch. Whether you are completely new to machine embroidery or looking to expand your textile practice, this workshop offers a supportive and encouraging space to explore, play, and build confidence.
By the end of the day, you will have created a beautiful textile sample to take home, or you may choose to embellish a garment or tote bag that you bring with you, giving new life to an existing piece in a creative and sustainable way.
What you'll get
All materials are provided. However, you are welcome to bring along a cotton garment or tote bag of your own if you would like to upcycle and personalise an existing item.
Knowledge required
All abilities welcome.
What to bring
You are welcome to bring a lidded bottle of water with you, but we kindly ask that you do not bring food into the studio.
Refreshments are available at our on-site café, Blend, until 4 p.m.

New Brewery Arts is Cirencester’s creative heart — a vibrant cultural charity housed in the historic buildings of the former Cirencester Brewery.
After the brewery’s closure in 1937, the site fell into disuse and was nearly lost to demolition. Thanks to a visionary local group, two of the remaining buildings were restored and transformed into craft workshops, opening as Cirencester Workshops in 1978.
Its mission is to champion craft — making it, learning it, and supporting the people who do it. Its courses, workshops, makers’ studios, 100% UK-made craft shop, and café all contribute to a vibrant creative hub at the heart of Cirencester.
