Free Motion Drawing with Your Sewing Machine Workshop

Never tried free motion drawing on your sewing machine? Then let Kathleen show you how to turn your simple doodles into stylised tiny swatches that can be used for cards, tags, book covers, and modern art pictures. Ideal for those who want to turn their drawings into stitch and don’t know how to do this, and also for those more advanced to push their boundaries and express themselves through stitch.You will create your swatches using paint applied directly to the fabric surface, and once dry, each swatch will house your doodles worked in a dramatic colour contrast to make them stand out. Then learn how to work a scribbled pen effect around each swatch to contain and finish your doodle.This is a fun and excellent class to find out a lot about you and your machine with on-site guidance and help to get you set to capture your inner doodler. Detailed requirements will be emailed to you in advance of the class.Kathy has been passionate about crafts from a young age, starting with card-making before learning to crochet and sew. She later developed her skills through college courses, achieving City & Guilds qualifications in patchwork, quilting, and embroidery, as well as an OCN Diploma in Textiles.Inspired by flowers and foliage—particularly from her own garden—Kathy creates intricate 3D textile pieces using layered fabrics such as organza, combined with machine stitching. Her work often features beads, wire, stumpwork, and heat techniques.Kathy teaches a range of techniques, including hand and machine embroidery, goldwork, heat-based methods, and contemporary textile art.Good to know:

• The venue has parking. Upon arrival, park in the car park at the front of the shop. Unload your vehicle into your classroom. Staff will then advise you where to park your car for the day at the rear of the complex.
• There is disabled parking and ramps allowing access to all areas. There is a disabled toilet.
• Staff will help anyone in need of assistance.
• Shop on-site selling an enormous range of goods relating to crafting: dressmaking, patchwork & quilting, knitting & crochet, sewing machines, and furniture.
• There is a coffee shop on-site called O for Coffee. Attendees at our classes are visited by coffee shop staff regularly throughout the day to take any orders. Anything consumed during your day is sold at a 10% discount. As well as a large choice of hot and cold drinks, the menu comprises savoury choices including sandwiches, paninis, jacket potatoes, and soups. For those with a sweet tooth, there is a selection of cakes and scones made in-house with gluten-free and vegan options.

Cancellation Policy:

• Should Tudor Rose Patchwork have to cancel a workshop, you will receive a full refund.
• Should you wish to cancel your attendance on a workshop more than 30 days before the workshop date, you will receive a refund less our £5 administration fee. Tudor Rose Patchwork may be able to transfer your booking to another date.
• Should you wish to cancel your attendance on a workshop less than 30 days before the workshop date, your payment will only be refunded if we are able to fill your place, less our £5 administration fee.
• Refunds will be made via the original payment method or can be taken in the form of goods or other workshops or group dates to the value of the refund being made.
• If a pattern is available for the workshop and no refund is able, then Tudor Rose Patchwork will arrange for you to receive the pattern.
• Patterns are not available for workshops that you have not attended or paid for.
• Patterns remain the property of the tutor and should not be copied, passed on, or used for teaching purposes without the permission of the tutor.
