Enjoy the ultimate tufting experience and learn to create your own extra-large area rug at this four-day craft course in Salford!
Whether you're looking for exciting things to do in Manchester or you need experience gift ideas for a practical pal, this deep dive into tufting will teach you everything you need to make a rug up to 1.5 x 2 metres using advanced techniques.
Don't worry if you've never tried tufting your own rug before, as students of all skill levels are welcome to come and enjoy four fun sessions of creativity in a calming space.
Your expert guide will provide all the equipment you need, including a projector, so you get an accurate and sleek template to tuft using 16 yarn colours. All you have to bring is an idea of the design you want to bring to life!
You'll use both cut pile and loop pile electric tufting guns, plus pneumatic tufting equipment if you want to experiment with dramatic textures when creating your piece.
Whatever you choose to make, you're sure to finish with impressive new skills and your beautiful rug, ready to take home or give to a loved one.
Please note:
- You must be at least 18 years of age to attend this course.
- This workshop is best suited to one participant, as it's an intensive complete guide to tufting. Most ideal for those looking to start a tufting business of their own or begin tufting as a creative practice. A second person may join as a separate class, whether that is a Half Day, Full Day or Two Day. Please contact MTW to arrange a custom class for more than one person.
- Yarn colours can be requested in advance so you have all the desired colours ready to use.
- Please send your design ideas up to three days before your workshop to allow for preparation. If you have a design in mind, emailing your teacher with the image will ensure the yarn colours you’d like to use are in stock.

Your teacher
Manchester Tufting Workshops was established in 2020, with the goal of publicly teaching the fascinating art of rug tufting without needing to undergo a degree. At the time, the only way to learn tufting from someone knowledgeable was through a university setting. I wanted to create a more accessible way of learning that was open to everyone with any skill level. Especially since I learn best in-person and because I was taught by a wonderful textile tutor, it was important to me to foster the right atmosphere to inspire others.
I have over 6 years of experience with electric and pneumatic tufting equipment, beginning my journey in 2016 whilst studying visual arts at the University of Salford.
