Film Processing Workshop

Pick up some tips on processing film by hand.

2 hours Class size 1 to 2     label £84 - £92 (£92 per guest when you book for 1 guest, £84 for 2 guests)

In this hands-on workshop, you and a partner can learn the magic of processing your own black and white film. This is a perfect opportunity to bring along a friend, loved one, or colleague, as you'll be embarking on this creative journey together!

During the workshop, you will discover different film development recipes and have the chance to mix your own black and white chemistry. Don't worry if you're new to this, as we will guide you every step of the way. You'll learn how to use a darkbag/changing bag, load a film onto a reel in a daylight processing tank, and time and process a roll (or rolls) of film by hand.

This workshop requires each person to have already shot a roll of black and white film to process by hand.

You will:

  • Find out about different film development recipes.
  • Mix your own black and white chemistry.
  • Learn how to use a darkbag/changing bag.

Please note:
  • Due to the historical nature of the building, there is no lift access. Access to the studio is via a short flight of stairs to the front door and up 2x internal flights of stairs. The darkroom is via a flight of external open iron steps down to the bank vault in the basement.
  • The person making the booking must be over 18. Any under 18's must be accompanied by a parent/guardian/educational provider aged over 18 at all times or will be turned away and no refund can be offered.

Hello! I’m Rachel and I run Little Vintage Photography which is based in Liverpool, North West UK but which I take all over the world.

I am also the official Darkroom Educator for ILFORD Photo, the world-leading B&W film manufacturer.

I set up my creative business to capture the unique, imperfect and beautiful moments of life using traditional photographic processes, and in order to help others learn to do the same!

I specialise in analogue photographic techniques, capture stories on film, print by hand in the darkroom and run creative and educational workshops for anyone curious to learn about alternative ways of making images in more mindful ways through magical, crafts-based processes which combine science, art and heritage.
