Film and TV Costuming Course

A course focusing on dyeing, painting and ageing of costumes.

In this exciting five-day workshop, you'll have the opportunity to learn a variety of techniques for transforming costumes into aged, weathered, and authentic masterpieces. We'll guide you through the art of distressing methods such as sanding and staining, as well as various dyeing techniques specifically designed to achieve your desired colours and effects on fabrics.

Throughout the course, you'll also be introduced to the art of applying paints and pigments, enabling you to create realistic effects that will truly bring your costumes to life. We understand that this may be a new experience for some, but fear not! Our friendly and knowledgeable instructors will be there every step of the way, ensuring that you feel comfortable and confident in your abilities.

During this immersive workshop, you'll have the opportunity to work with a range of materials, allowing you to explore and experiment with different techniques. Whether you're a budding costume designer or simply looking to expand your creative horizons, this workshop is for you. Be prepared to get your hands dirty and let your imagination run wild!

By the end of the course, you'll have gained valuable skills in distressing, dyeing, and painting, equipping you with the knowledge to create truly authentic and visually stunning costumes. You'll also have the satisfaction of taking home your very own masterpiece, showcasing the techniques and concepts you've learned throughout the workshop.


About your tutors:

Sarah Pasricha has been working in the industry for over 15 years and specilises in dying and printing. She has worked on productions including 1917, Wednesday, Fantastic Beasts and Murder on the Orient Express.

Sarah Godwin also has over 15 years experience in the industry, focusing her practice on ageing, breakdown and dyeing. She has worked on many productions including The Crown, Bridgerton, 1917, The Batman and His Dark Materials.

Amelia Tinton has worked in the Film & TV industry for the last 3 years, ageing and dyeing costumes and has over 10 years of Print experience.

Sian Samuel is a highly experienced dyer and has been working in the Film industry for the last 8 years. She has worked on many productions including The Crown, Bridgerton, 1917, The Batman and His Dark Materials.

What you'll get
By the end of the workshop, you will have gained a basic understanding of costume distressing techniques and dyeing methods. You will have looked into applying paints and pigments to create realistic effects. And, best of all, you'll have your own beautifully aged and weathered piece to take home and admire.

Please wear clothes that you dont mind getting dirty
Please bring lunch (there are aso lots of cafes near by).
