This course is designed to accommodate all skill levels, whether you are a total beginner or have some prior experience. In this mindful activity, your experienced tutor, Vicky, will guide you step-by-step through creative techniques, helping you connect with your artistic side and find peace through expression.
Over the five weeks of this workshop, you will learn:
  • Week 1 – You will learn how to construct a free-form mandala, discover the origins of this art form, and enjoy some relaxation and meditative processes.
  • Week 2 – We will introduce watercolour paints to draw concentric circles, which you will then use to create a beautiful flower pattern mandala.
  • Week 3 – We will experiment with Zen doodles and create unique Yin Yang designs.
  • Week 4 – We will use a compass and ruler to create a stunning geometric starburst mandala, with step-by-step guidance provided.
  • Week 5 – Tapping into the skills we have learned in previous weeks, we will use circular templates to create our own unique mandala designs.

FAQ

Will I need a compass?
Yes you will need a compass set if you wish to continue at home. Helix compass sets have wheels which are better because you can lock them in place so they won't slip as you draw a circle. You can get by during this course with a normal school compass.
I am worried about using a compass, I haven't used one since school?
Don't worry, the tutor will guide and support you every step of the way. Not all mandala will need a compass. We also use templates and freestyle designs.

I believe that everyone can benefit from engaging with the creative arts. My own life experiences have shown me how important it is to make creativity accessible to all, and to champion its positive, therapeutic impact on wellbeing.
With over 30 years’ experience in community learning and the creative arts, I’ve worked and volunteered with a wide range of organisations and charities. I’m always expanding my skills, gaining qualifications in mental health and therapeutic practices, exploring new methods and approaches within both the creative fields and community wellbeing.
I truly believe that everyone can create. My aim is to offer a safe, supportive space, along with the opportunity to explore and create with a variety of materials plus heaps of encouragement to help you discover your own inspiration, strengths, and creative voice.
