Join textile artist Sue Green for a creative embroidery workshop in Gloucestershire, where you’ll learn the art of embroidery using grid work. This hands-on session combines machine and hand stitching techniques to help you create a unique and textured piece of textile art to take home with you!
Ideal for anyone with sewing machine experience and those looking to expand their skills, you’ll be guided through each stage with demonstrations and one-to-one support in a relaxed and encouraging environment.
What to expect:
  • Learn the fundamentals of embroidery grid work.
  • Construct your own grid using calico and lace on a sewing machine.
  • Use a simple zig-zag stitch to create a new textile base.
  • Plan and transfer your design using tea bag paper.
  • Develop your piece with hand stitching techniques.
  • Work from provided imagery or bring your own inspiration (and lace for a personal touch).
By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with your own layered textile artwork and the skills to continue exploring creative embroidery techniques at home.
What you'll get
  • You will leave this workshop with more confidence in embroidery and with a decorative cloth to frame or hang.
  • All materials and equipment are included.
  • Refreshments are available at our on-site café Blend until 4pm.
Knowledge required
You will need some knowledge of basic hand stitching and be confident in using a sewing machine (18+).
What to bring
  • If you have any cream lace you want to use, please bring this along.
  • You may wish to start thinking of a design you would like to embroider ahead of the workshop -- feel free to bring any reference images or sketches with you.
  • You are welcome to bring a lidded bottle of water with you, but we kindly ask that you do not bring food into the studio.

New Brewery Arts is Cirencester’s creative heart — a vibrant cultural charity housed in the historic buildings of the former Cirencester Brewery.
After the brewery’s closure in 1937, the site fell into disuse and was nearly lost to demolition. Thanks to a visionary local group, two of the remaining buildings were restored and transformed into craft workshops, opening as Cirencester Workshops in 1978.
Its mission is to champion craft — making it, learning it, and supporting the people who do it. Its courses, workshops, makers’ studios, 100% UK-made craft shop, and café all contribute to a vibrant creative hub at the heart of Cirencester.
