Eco Textile Workshop

Get ready to dive into the world of sustainable textiles at SILT.



3 hours Class size 1 to 7     label £55

Learn how to make cordage using natural materials and weave with coloured textile pieces (which have been botanically dyed at SILT). Hand twisting has been used for thousands of years as a method of producing string and yarn, you will see how this can be applied to many different materials. We will discuss ancient fabric construction techniques and their relevance today.


Knowledge required
Beginners very welcome.

You will create a miniature wall hanging or sample piece using these two processes.

SILT, the Sustainable Image Lab Trowbridge SILT is a research studio for ecological image making, run by artists Anna and Alison. We hold in-person workshops for use of our facilities, public events, talks and exhibitions.

All elements of our programme relate to environmentally focused art practice. Processes and materials used and made in the workshop range from analogue photographic images developed with non-toxic plant based substance, paints, inks and dyes made using ecologically safe ingredients, textiles made with foraged or repurposed materials.
