Join photographer Georgina Valentine for this fun photography workshop in Gloucestershire to learn how to use your DSLR camera. Georgina will be running a portraiture-focused class and a more general photography class so you can learn all the best tips and tricks!
No photography experience is required -- Georgina will break down technical concepts into simple, practical steps, showing you how to apply them in real-world situations as you learn at your own pace.
What to expect:
  • Portraiture: Learn how natural light, lens selection, and subtle compositional shifts can transform your portraits.
  • Master semi-automatic settings to control focus and freeze motion, allowing you to capture even the most active subjects.
  • General Photography: Develop skills to freeze or blur movement and control depth of field through practical demos and exercises.
  • Explore how an understanding of light and small changes in framing can fundamentally improve your photographic style.
  • For both classes, head to Abbey Grounds for themed photo challenges and freestyle shooting with Georgina’s expert guidance!
  • Return to the studio to share images and discuss what worked, what didn’t, and the lessons learned from both.
By the end of the workshop, you'll have developed a solid foundation of photography skills and the inspiration to keep exploring this fun hobby in your own time.
What you'll get

New Brewery Arts is Cirencester’s creative heart — a vibrant cultural charity housed in the historic buildings of the former Cirencester Brewery.
After the brewery’s closure in 1937, the site fell into disuse and was nearly lost to demolition. Thanks to a visionary local group, two of the remaining buildings were restored and transformed into craft workshops, opening as Cirencester Workshops in 1978.
Its mission is to champion craft — making it, learning it, and supporting the people who do it. Its courses, workshops, makers’ studios, 100% UK-made craft shop, and café all contribute to a vibrant creative hub at the heart of Cirencester.
