Deep Pour Epoxy Resin Serving Board Workshop Nottingham
Create a large resin and wood serving board while learning the techniques behind deep-pour epoxy resin in this hands-on Nottingham workshop.
What you'll do
Ready to take your resin creativity to a bigger scale?
Join us at Local Art Shop in Gedling, Nottingham, for a hands-on deep pour epoxy resin workshop, where you'll combine natural wood with coloured resin to create your own statement serving board or small table-top piece.
This workshop goes further than our standard resin art class. As well as getting creative with colour and design, you'll learn more about how different epoxy resins work, why pour depth matters, and how resin is used for larger projects such as serving boards, table tops, and river tables.
You'll start by looking at the natural wood available for your session. Every piece of timber has its own grain, edges, knots, shape, and character, so your finished piece will be completely individual.
We'll then guide you through preparing and positioning your wood before you choose from our range of colours, pigments, and resin effects to create your design.
You'll learn how deep-pour resin differs from coating and standard casting resins, including why different resins have different working times, curing times, and maximum pour depths.
We'll also introduce you to the principles behind mould making for larger resin projects – how moulds are designed, prepared, and sealed, and what you need to think about if you want to progress to bigger projects in the future.
For your own project, you'll work in one of our specially prepared silicone moulds, allowing you to focus on timber placement, colour, accurate mixing, and achieving a successful deep pour.
Depending on the project option available for your session, you'll create either:
Loop Handle Serving Board: Approximately 63cm x 21cm, with a distinctive loop-style handle.
or
Rectangular Serving Board / Small Table Top: Approximately 45cm x 30cm, which can be used as a statement serving board or developed into the top for a small side or coffee table.
The finished depth will vary depending on the natural wood we are able to source for the workshop.
Once your design is planned, you'll measure, mix, colour, and pour your deep-pour epoxy resin with step-by-step guidance throughout.
There's no expectation for every piece to look the same – quite the opposite. The combination of natural timber and your own colour choices means every finished project will be completely unique.
The aim is for you to leave with more than a beautiful piece. You'll also gain a much better understanding of the techniques and considerations involved when working with deep-pour resin and larger resin projects.
What you'll learn
During the workshop, we'll cover:
  • The difference between coating, casting, and deep-pour epoxy resin
  • How and why maximum pour depths vary between resins
  • Understanding resin working and curing times
  • Why larger volumes of resin behave differently
  • Preparing natural wood for resin casting
  • Planning and positioning wood inside a mould
  • How larger resin moulds are designed and prepared
  • Calculating the amount of resin required
  • Accurately measuring and mixing epoxy resin
  • Using pigments and colours
  • Creating movement and effects within the resin
  • Bubble management
  • Safe resin handling
  • How the skills can be developed for larger serving boards, table tops, and resin furniture projects
Whether you've experimented with resin before or you're fascinated by resin and wood furniture and want to understand how it's made, you'll be guided through the process clearly and practically.

See more FAQs
Can I take my finished piece home on the day?
No. Deep-pour epoxy resin needs time to cure correctly. Your finished piece will normally be ready to collect from our Gedling shop approximately one week after your workshop, once it has cured and we have carried out our final checks. Postage can also be arranged if required.
Will my finished piece look exactly like the examples in the photographs?
No – and that's part of what makes this workshop special. We use natural wood, so grain, live edges, knots, thickness and shape will vary. You'll also choose your own resin colours and effects. Photographs are examples of pieces that can be created. Your finished project will be individual to you.
How big will my finished project be?
The loop handle serving board is approximately 63cm x 21cm. The rectangular serving board / small table top is approximately 45cm x 30cm. The finished depth can vary depending on the natural wood sourced for your workshop.
Is the finished resin heatproof?
No. Epoxy resin should not be treated as a heatproof surface. Do not place hot mugs, plates, pans, ovenware, candle containers or other very hot objects directly onto the resin. Always use an appropriate coaster, trivet or heat-resistant mat underneath hot items.
What happens if someone behaves unsafely during the workshop?
This workshop involves epoxy resin, chemicals, tools and workshop equipment, so everyone must follow the safety guidance and instructions given by our staff. Unsafe, reckless or dangerous behaviour will not be tolerated. If we consider someone's actions to be unsafe or potentially dangerous, they may be removed from the workshop immediately and no refund will be given. If a participant aged 14–17 is removed, the responsible adult attending with them will also be required to leave. If the responsible adult is removed, the young person in their care must also leave. No refund will be given for either booking in these circumstances.
I have asthma or a breathing condition – can I attend?
Our workshop space uses an air filtration system, and suitable masks are available for participants who wish to use them. However, epoxy resin and other workshop materials may not be suitable for everyone with asthma, respiratory conditions, chemical sensitivities or other breathing-related medical conditions. If you have any concerns about your health, we strongly recommend speaking with your GP or healthcare professional before booking or attending the workshop. Please also let us know about any relevant breathing or respiratory condition before the session so we can discuss the workshop environment and available precautions with you. We cannot provide individual medical advice or guarantee that the workshop environment will be suitable for a particular medical condition.

I started Local Art Shop after a love of art, making and bespoke picture framing grew into something much bigger. What began from home has grown into an established Nottingham art shop, workshop space and framing service, built on quality materials, honest advice and a real passion for helping people create.
Over the years, I’ve worked with everyone from complete beginners and local artists to schools, art groups, businesses, events and creative makers. I also demonstrate products and techniques for companies, and I’ve been invited to Makers Central at the NEC to show my work and help people understand more about art, resin and creative making.
My own work includes wood and resin pieces, tactile wall art, coffee tables and unique handmade designs, often combining traditional craft with modern materials. I love experimenting, problem-solving and showing people that art doesn’t have to feel intimidating.
Teaching is one of my favourite parts of what I do. I enjoy breaking techniques down in a friendly, practical way and watching people grow in confidence as they make something they’re proud of. Whether you’re a complete beginner or already creative, my workshops are relaxed, supportive and full of encouragement.
