Upgrade your crochet skills in no time with the help of this expert crochet class, led by a Hobbycraft Artisan. This is designed in an online live format, giving you the opportunity to watch a demonstration of the project while also being able to ask any questions.

This course focuses on how to crochet a granny square bag, featuring a sunflower design. You’ll be able to learn the simple techniques in no time, and you can even craft along throughout.

In the first session, you’ll learn how to make your first granny square. Follow along to discover how to combine different stitches to make a sunflower pattern. The crochet stiches featured will include treble stitch, puff stitch and cluster stitch. You’ll also be told how to block and stretch out your squares and what the purpose of this is.

In the second session, you’ll be shown how to lay out your squares and the most effective way of joining the squares with crochet stitches. The host will also explain how to make the handles.

This is the perfect way to grow your crochet confidence!

Keeping everyone safe

At Hobbycraft, we want our workshops to be enjoyable, inclusive, and safe for everyone. Some workshops are suitable for children, and where this is the case, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for supervising their child at all times unless the workshop is clearly stated as suitable for independent attendance. Our colleagues and instructors are there to guide the activity and support a safe environment, and if any concerns about safety or wellbeing arise during a workshop, these should be raised with a member of staff straight away.

  • 5/5 from Anna Barwick, attended Aug 2026: I have just completed the two week sunflower bag crochet workshop with Gina, and it was a brilliant way to get back into a craft I hadn’t touched in years. Gina is a knowledgeable and patient instructor who explains each step clearly, and she has a real gift for encouraging students at every skill level. I already knew the basic stitches but had lost my confidence, and Gina’s supportive approach helped me pick things up again quickly. The workshop itself was very well structured and genuinely excellent value for money. I learnt so much and finished with a bag I’m proud of, but more importantly I’ve come away inspired to keep crocheting. I’ve already booked onto more Hobbycraft workshops and would happily recommend Gina and this course to anyone wanting to learn or return to crochet.
  • 5/5 from Ruth Blackett, attended Jul 2026: Brilliant classes both teachers were patient and informative, showing step by step what we needed to do. Thank you I would thoroughly recommend this class.

  • 5/5 from Jo Canham, attended Jul 2026: Another great workshop. I have seen my crochet confidence grow with each workshop that I do and I am proud of what I can create. The information is delivered in a friendly, professional manner but relaxed enough to feel able to ask questions.
  • 5/5 from Lynda Broad, attended Jun 2026: A great class easy to follow and at a steady pace to keep up with.. in addition Gina gave us loads of good tips during the two sessions.

  • 5/5 from Jessica Lovelace, attended Jun 2026: Although I wasn’t able to complete the second part of the course I was pleased with my granny square s. The tutor was very patient and helpful and explained everything clearly. I felt able to ask questions. I learned a lot. Thank you!
  • 5/5 from Kate, attended May 2026: I am pleased with my sunflower tote project progress, all thanks to Gina Croft, the Hobbycraft tutor, being so thorough and responding to my and others queries during the session. I plan to complete the tote with a 'fat quarter' lining and 90 st handle as suggested by her. And I definitely plan to make more, with other colour combinations for family and friends!
