Come and learn how to carve medieval designs in oak with a skilled and experienced professional woodcarver and teacher
Our tutor Alistair will guide you through the process of carving in wood using traditional gouges and chisels. This course is suitable for any skill level, from absolute beginners to those with some experience.
All tools and a block of oak measuring 200 x 170 x 20mm (roughly 7.75 x 6.75 in x 0.75 inches) will be supplied, or feel free to bring your own special piece of timber if you prefer.
Example designs will be available to use or come with your own and Alistair can advise you on adapting them for carving.
The Folk House & cafe will be closed during this weekend workshop, you will need to go off site for the 1 hour lunch break each day.
You will meet at the back entrance of the Folk House for this workshop. The workshop will be held in the Pottery Studio.

The Bristol Folk House is an adult education centre providing a variety of part-time day and evening courses and workshops for over 18's. The Folk House provides a welcoming environment in which to explore your creativity and learn new skills.
We provide courses and workshops that engage the local community. The cafe provides fantastic organic food and a space to get together before and after classes. It is also open to the public and is the perfect place for those seeking a relaxed and friendly place in Bristol city centre. Live music and festivals happen throughout the year, as well as markets, events and exhibitions.
The Bristol Folk House is part of a charity and we receive no funding from the government, the city council or any other institution and our income is wholly derived from course fees, venue hire, members and fundraising events.
The centre began in the 1870's with the aim of supporting access to education in the community. The first programme of activities was produced for the academic year in 1920-1921.
