Welcome and Class Intro

Welcome and Class Intro

Arrive, settle in and enjoy an intro on the tools you'll be using and how to handle the clay. You can use gloves and an apron if you'd like, plus masks will be available for the dry standing stage.

Clay Making

Clay Making

In this stage we will press the clay into our individual dagger moulds to create the base dagger shape, apply a few mini items like leaves and flowers, maybe a vine that entwines around it, and an optional gem can be added as well. You can make your dagger look unique to your individual theme, i will ensure you have mini moulds for leaves, flowers, moons, butterfly wings, stars and hearts so you can detail your dagger as you wish!

Drying The Clay

Drying the Clay

Place them onto a heat pad and we wait 15 minutes for the piece to dry fully -- during this time we can enjoy tea and biscuits and I will explain what happens during the firing. Once they are dry, we can sand and tidy up the pieces.

Admire Our Work

When all our pieces are finished we can admire our creative accomplishments and take some photos if you wish! You will receive your fired and polished dagger pendant (with cord of course!) in the post within 7 days!

Join me for this unique Bronze Metal Clay Alchemist Workshop in Cardiff, where you'll create your own solid bronze decorated dagger pendant from metal clay.
Using real bronze metal clay, you'll sculpt and decorate a miniature fantasy-inspired dagger before it's transformed into solid bronze in the kiln. No previous experience is needed. I'll guide you through every step in a relaxed, friendly environment.
What you'll do:
  • Learn the basics of working with bronze metal clay.
  • Use 15g of bronze metal clay to create your dagger pendant, with 2g reserved to make slip for attaching decorative elements.
  • Create the base shape of the miniature dagger by using a mould and then add in details as you like by using simple hand-building techniques.
  • Personalise your design with one gemstone and a selection of miniature moulds and decorative textures to create a truly unique piece.
At the end of the workshop, your pendant will be carefully taken away for firing and finishing in my kiln. During firing, the clay is transformed into solid bronze through a process called sintering. Your finished pendant will be polished and returned to you within 2 weeks, supplied on your choice of a 16", 18", 20" or 24" leather or cotton black cord, or as a keyring if you prefer.
You'll gain new creative skills, a Metal Clay Alchemist Certificate, and a handcrafted solid bronze dagger pendant that's completely unique to you.
What you'll get
  • Your unique dagger pendant made by yourselves! (This will be posted to you around 7 to 14 days after being fired in my studio.)
  • A metal clay alchemist certificate.
  • Free tea, coffee, and biscuits during the class. Yum!

Hello! I’m Hanna and I’m the owner of Sunnygems. I specialize in metal clay sculptural jewellery. I work mostly in bronze and copper and enjoy infusing themes into my work like medieval history, mythology, fantasy, and the beauty of nature. I originally started out studying animation before moving into illustration, where I loved creating detailed, nature-inspired artwork. Over time, my creativity led me to jewellery making. I first explored traditional techniques using sheet metal and wire wrapping, but everything changed when I received a small pack of metal clay for Christmas. The moment I tried it, I knew I'd found the craft for me, and I've been completely hooked ever since. Since starting my business in 2024, I have run 4 full-day bronze metal clay workshops. Everyone has left the workshops feeling like they enjoyed the experience, so I’ve decided to grow my workshops in an effort to be able to offer more creative opportunities to the world. Being able to share the love and joy of sculpting with metal clay and watching it transform from something so soft into solid metal is one of the most satisfying parts of the process. There's nothing better than seeing someone discover that magic for the first time and leave feeling proud of what they've created. My workshops are relaxed, welcoming, and designed for everyone, whether you're completely new to jewellery making or simply looking to try something different. I hope everyone leaves feeling inspired, confident, and excited to keep creating.
