Looking for a mindful, hands-on craft to sink your teeth into? Our British Rag Rug Making for Beginners workshop is the perfect creative escape. In this relaxed and welcoming workshop, you’ll learn the traditional techniques of rag rugging - the proggy / shaggy style, the textured short shaggy technique and classic loopy rug hooking, all whilst using quality hessian and a treasure trove of recycled fabrics. Whether you choose to start a rug, cushion, tote bag or everlasting flower bouquet, you’ll have the freedom to create something completely bespoke with expert guidance every step of the way.
Expect a cosy day spent amongst fellow crafty folk, experimenting with textures, colour combos, and fabric types - you might even find inspiration in someone else's offcuts! All tools and materials are provided on the day (plus plenty of tea and biccies), but you’re welcome to bring along old clothing or textiles you'd love to give a new life. Just pack yourself a tasty lunch and we’ll take care of the rest.
Whether you're a total beginner or just looking to try something new, this is your invitation to unplug, unwind and get rag rugging. Spaces are limited, so book now and let your creativity shine!
What you'll get
Your creations to take home.
Complimentary refreshments.
Knowledge required
None - perfect for absolute beginners. It is a very forgiving craft and so easy and quick to learn.
What to bring
A packed lunch, although there are plenty of places nearby to eat or purchase food.
You will be provided with all the materials you need during the class but as the charm of rag rugging is often in the memories attached to old clothes, you're welcome to bring along any of your own clothing you’d like to incorporate, particularly if you have clothing with sentimental value that you'd like to use.
