Learn the steps to making cold process soap at this soap making class in Milton Keynes.

2 hours Class size 1 to 8 guests       £60 (PayPal Pay in 3 available)

Learn the craft of handmade soap from scratch in this cold process soap making workshop with Dilek, the maker behind The Soap Academy – taught properly, the way she wishes someone had taught her when she started out.
Forget melt-and-pour kits – here you'll get hands-on with the full cold process method, learning safe lye handling, how to pair oils that work well together, and how to spot trace, so you know exactly when your soap is ready to mould. Groups are kept small, so you'll get proper attention and never feel lost in the chemistry.
Dilek works with pure essential oils rather than synthetic fragrance, so you'll discover why geranium rose actually smells like geranium and not like a candle aisle. Some of the botanicals, including lavender and rosemary, are hand-picked from her own allotment, so you can trace the whole process from soil to soap.
This is a slow craft, and it's taught slowly. There's no rushing a cold process bar, and no rushing the learning either – by the end of the afternoon, you won't just have made soap, you'll understand it.
What you'll get
  • A hands on morning or an afternoon making a full batch of real cold process soap.
  • Clear guidance on safe lye handling, from someone who teaches it properly.
  • An understanding of how to choose and combine oils for lather, hardness and skin feel.
  • The chance to work with pure essential oils and see how they behave in soap.
  • Soap you made yourself to take home and cure.
  • All materials, tools and aprons provided, nothing to bring but yourself.
  • Time with a small group, not a crowd, so questions get proper answers.

FAQ

Do I need any experience to join?
None at all. This workshop is built for complete beginners. I explain everything as we go, and there are no silly questions in my studio.
Is it safe? I have heard soap making involves lye.
Yes, it is safe when it is handled properly, and that is exactly what I teach. I walk you through safe lye handling step by step, with the right equipment and nothing rushed.
Will I take soap home with me on the day?
You will take home the soap you make, but cold process soap needs around six weeks to cure before it is ready to use. I will explain exactly how to store and cure it once you are home.

What should I wear?
Something you do not mind getting a little messy. I provide aprons, but closed toe shoes are a good idea and long hair is best tied back.
Is this suitable for children or teenagers?
This workshop involves working with lye, so it is designed for adults. If you would like to bring a younger person, please message me first so we can talk it through.
Do you cater for allergies or sensitive skin?
Yes, just let me know in advance. I make a fragrance free range for sensitive skin, and I am happy to talk through ingredients before you book.
What is included in the price?
Everything you need for the day: materials, tools, aprons and my full guidance. There is nothing extra to buy on the day.
Can I book as a gift for someone else?
Yes, and it is a lovely gift. Just book under your name and let me know it is a gift, or message me and I will help you sort the details.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Please message me as early as you can. I run small groups, so late cancellations affect other bookings, but I will always try to find a solution that works.
Do you offer anything if I cannot make it to Milton Keynes or Bedford?
Yes. I also run an online beginners course you can take from anywhere in the world, on my website.

I'm Dilek, the maker and teacher behind The Soap Academy. I left a corporate career to work with my hands, and I have never looked back.
I teach handmade soap making the slow way, using real cold process chemistry rather than melt and pour shortcuts. Everything I make and teach starts from the same place: pure essential oils, gentle botanicals, and ingredients I can explain to you without a science degree. Some of the lavender and rosemary I use even comes from my own allotment.
My workshops run in small groups at Westbury Arts Centre (Milton Keynes) and Absolutely Shabbylass (Bedford), where I keep things relaxed and hands on. You will make real soap from scratch, understand why each step matters, and leave with bars of your own to cure at home. No experience needed, just curiosity.
I also run an online beginners course for anyone who cannot make it to a workshop in person, along with a growing range of handmade soaps and digital guides. You can find all of that on my website, thesoapacademy.com.
Whether you come along for an afternoon or take the course from your own kitchen, my aim is the same. I want you to leave understanding the craft, not just holding a bar of soap.
