Come and learn the fundamentals of bookbinding at our studio in Bristol with professional bookbinder Josh James. Over this hands-on workshop, you'll discover how to fold, slit and prick paper, master the art of sewing signatures, and understand how to work thoughtfully with different papers and bookbinding tools – the skills that separate a handmade notebook from one that falls apart.Starting from scratch, you'll create up to two beautiful single-section pamphlets with decorative paper covers that are entirely your own. Josh will guide you through each step, breaking down what might feel technical into straightforward, manageable techniques. You'll be surprised how satisfying it is to see a flat pile of paper transform into a proper bound notebook under your hands.There's real value in learning these skills early on. Once you understand how a book is actually put together, you can apply what you've learned to all sorts of future bookbinding projects – whether that's experimenting with different paper combinations, trying larger formats, or getting inventive with your designs.You'll leave with 1–2 handmade notebooks that look and feel genuinely professional, plus a set of foundational skills and the confidence to keep making.
