In this workshop, Lichen will introduce you to the traditional craft of bookbinding using sustainable methods. You will create your own sketchbook from a mix of recycled, textured, and reclaimed papers, learning techniques that transform these materials into a personal sketchbook that will inspire and ignite creativity.
You will then be guided through mark-making techniques, including mono-printing and layering colour and texture to create experimental collages within your sketchbook. The focus is on playful exploration and finding new ways to get ideas on paper.
You will leave this workshop with a handcrafted sketchbook full of explorative and playful experiments, and space to continue your creative journey.
What you'll get
All materials will be provided, but you are welcome to bring along special papers, photos, postcards, or a cover (A4 size recommended) to personalise your sketchbook and make it truly your own.

New Brewery Arts is Cirencester’s creative heart — a vibrant cultural charity housed in the historic buildings of the former Cirencester Brewery.
After the brewery’s closure in 1937, the site fell into disuse and was nearly lost to demolition. Thanks to a visionary local group, two of the remaining buildings were restored and transformed into craft workshops, opening as Cirencester Workshops in 1978.
Its mission is to champion craft — making it, learning it, and supporting the people who do it. Its courses, workshops, makers’ studios, 100% UK-made craft shop, and café all contribute to a vibrant creative hub at the heart of Cirencester.
