3 hours Location Deptford Class size 1 to 12 guests   £35 - £37 (£37 per guest when you book for 1 guest, £35/guest for 2+ guests)

Discover the endangered art of bobbin lace in this beginner-friendly lacemaking workshop in London, where you'll learn the fundamental stitches behind this beautiful heritage craft. No previous experience is needed, so it's a warm, welcoming place to start.
Together, we'll work through the core stitches that form the building blocks of bobbin lace: the cross, the twist, the whole stitch, the half stitch, and the whole stitch and twist. Each one builds on the last, so you'll gradually gain confidence as your skills come together.
Everything you need is provided, including bobbins, a lace pillow, pins, threads and a pattern, so all you need to bring is a little patience and a willingness to have a go. By the end of the course, you'll leave with a finished piece of lace and a fun new skill that you can keep practising at home.
What you'll get
A completed piece of beginner's lace and the pattern pricking.

  • 5/5 from Linda Sam, attended Nov 2026: Great space to learn new crafts, super friendly staff. I look forward to returning soon
  • 5/5 from Tracey Anderson, attended Nov 2026: Great class. Tutors were both great and very patient. Lace making is mind boggling but worth the boggle once you see the finished lace.

Hi, I'm Leigh and I run The Laceup London. I started making bobbin lace with the London Lace Club in Feb 2024 and have been a lacemaking obsessive ever since. I now run courses to give more people a chance to try this endangered, gorgeous craft. I provide the bobbins, threads, cushions, patterns; all you need to bring is your desire to learn a new skill.
