Create a fun and super-cute skirt-style lampshade designed to sit neatly over a candle clip carrier—perfect for adding charm to a bedside lamp or a cosy corner.
In this relaxed morning workshop, Sarita will guide you in exploring print, pattern, and colour through a short demonstration using her extensive collection of hand-carved Indian woodblocks and fabric paints. You’ll begin by planning your design on a paper template before bringing it to life by printing a pre-sewn fabric panel. There will be ample opportunity to try printing with various woodblocks.
To finish, you’ll select a contrasting grosgrain ribbon and transform your fabric into a beautifully gathered lampshade skirt, ready to slip over your cone-shaped carrier. You’ll take home your completed piece, along with the candle clip lampshade (included in the workshop price).
Tea/coffee and homemade cake will be served during the morning to give us an opportunity to pause, relax, chat, and admire each other's creative work.
What you'll get
You will go home having printed your own lampshade skirt that pops over a cone lampshade (which is included in the price of the workshop).
Knowledge required
Beginner-friendly. All stages of how to block print and apply paint to the block will be demonstrated, and you will be inspired and guided on which blocks to print with, as well as thinking about colour and pattern.
What to bring
It is advised to bring an apron or wear an older item of clothing, as we are printing using water-based fabric paints.

I first tried wood block printing in 2021 and was immediately hooked on the ease and impact of using a wood block to print onto fabric and paper. I love the feel and weight of the hand carved blocks (all made by Indian artisans) and print with them using vibrant fabric paint colours to give a bold image.
My background prior to printing was in Social Work, recruiting and training Foster Carers, but I've always made time to be creative. I enjoy sewing and needlework to help me relax and unwind from work stresses.
What started out as a personal hobby, has grown to me cultivating a vast collection of hand carved Indian wood blocks. I use these to lead block print workshops across West and East Sussex printing onto paper and fabric to make beutiful items for the home or to share.
People enjoy coming on my workshops to learn a new skill and explore a craft that is easy to master with inspiration and support - which is why my cushion cover workshops are particularly popular. At Christmas i lead short workshop get togethers to design and print Christmas cards and gift wrap/tags and also festive napkins and winter themed table runners with beautiful red berries and green holly/ivy stamps.
