Join this exciting, hands-on silver jewellery making class in Tywardreath, conveniently located just a 5-minute walk from Par train station. This workshop is perfect for total beginners, offering a wonderful opportunity to learn how to design and create your very own silver clay jewellery pieces.
In this creative activity, you will make three or more beautiful items of fine silver jewellery, such as pendants, drop earrings, and charms. The number of items you craft will depend on the size and weight of your unique designs, which you can take away at the end of the course – perfect for gifting or as a special treat for yourself!
You'll be working with silver clay, a completely recycled product that transforms into hallmark-quality solid silver when fired, so you're being kind to the environment too. The workshop room and bathroom are wheelchair-friendly, with accessible doors and parking available right outside if needed.
In this workshop, you will learn how to:
  • Roll and pattern clay using texture sheets and natural leaves.
  • Cut shapes freehand or with cutters.
  • Create your own unique moulds.
  • Smooth imperfections and sand your pieces for a professional finish.
  • Make neat holes for jump rings.
  • Dry your clay effectively.
  • Prepare your pieces for the fascinating firing process.
  • Fire your creations using a handheld jeweller's torch.
  • Optionally, apply Liver of Sulphur to create a patina, enhancing the textures of your design.
The day begins with a warm welcome, tea or coffee, and an introduction to the magic of silver clay and its eco-friendly properties. Your tutor, Rebecca, will demonstrate various techniques, offering plenty of hints and tips. You'll then start sketching your designs before crafting your pieces with Rebecca's guidance. While your creations dry, you'll enjoy a light vegetarian lunch (included in the price).
The afternoon is dedicated to the magical firing process, where your clay transforms into 99.9% fine silver. Afterwards, you'll polish your pieces and learn how to attach pendants to chains or neck cords. The workshop concludes with a celebratory glass of prosecco (or a non-alcoholic alternative) as you admire everyone's beautiful jewellery.
