Forget the mass-produced mugs and boring bowls, this pottery course in London is a fantastic chance to make your own handmade ceramics in a fun studio environment!
Led by a friendly local expert, this four-week workshop will get you up to speed with professional techniques and is the perfect introduction to pottery for beginners. In the first three weeks, your teacher will help you master wheel throwing as you learn how to prepare, centre, open and pull your clay into different shapes. Once ready, you'll spend the final week turning the pots, decorating your designs and attaching handles to your finished pieces.
Don't worry if this is your first time attempting clay creation, with a maximum class size of two students and a fully equipped studio, this course will turn you into a pottery pro in no time at all! Looking for London activities to try with a partner? Wheel throwing is a fantastic alternative to the usual date ideas and might even be your new shared hobby!
At the end of your course, you'll have a whole host of new skills and ten pieces of handmade pottery, ready to be completed with a glaze of your choice and collected at a later date.
Please note:
Your final pieces will be ready to pick up around three weeks after your class. You will be contacted over email or text when your work is ready. Alternatively, your work can be delivered to you for an additional fee of £10.
After the first session, subsequent sessions can be arranged with the teacher, at a time that suits you.
The Old Public Library Building - London, E7 8QR
This venue is a short walk from East Ham tube station (500m).
Suzan fell in love with clay in her early teens in Turkey but didn't have the chance to get her hands dirty until after she came to London and enrolled on a part-time course in 2004. After finishing her BTEC certification classes in Kensington and Chelsea college Suzan practised her pottery in a studio share in Kilburn.
In 2017 Suzan finally opened her own studio in Plaistow where she designs and creates all of her own work which is inspired by her mixed family background, travels and love for natural objects. Her homeware collection offers a handcrafted alternative to daily life otherwise filled with mass-produced items.
