Beginner's Guide to Crocheting a Granny Square

Join us in-store to discover the joys of crochet with a classic granny square project, ideal for beginners.

1.5 hours Class size 1 to 5     label £22

Fall in love with crochet by creating a classic granny square! You’ll be able to combine beautiful colours to stitch this traditional crochet design, perfect for setting you up for so many other projects. Granny squares can be used to make blankets, garments and more – we’re here to help you get started with your first one.

With the help of an Hobbycraft Artisan, you’ll learn how to crochet a granny square by using all the key techniques. You’ll use double and treble stitches, as well as learning how to decipher a granny square pattern and how to change yarn colours.

There’s a kit included with the workshop to give you everything you need for the project. Within the 90-minute session, you’ll be able to create one granny square, though you can continue to practice making more once you’ve got to grips with all the skills. The kit even features a pattern for a granny square blanket to help you continue your adventure in crochet!

This workshop is the perfect way to grow your crochet confidence, with tips and support from a pro! It’s ideal if you already have basic knowledge of the stitches but are looking to refresh yourself or develop further.

Katie was extremely helpful. Even changing the wool as I could get on with the one chosen. As I was the only attending I got one-to-one tuition. I struggled at first holding the hook but with encouragement got better at it.

I attend this class after having done the basic crochet stitch class a few week’s previously, definitely a good idea to do both in that order. I was very lucky as I was the only one booked so had one to one tuition. Katie is a lovely girl who is passionate about her craft and had a lot of patience teaching me. The yarn supplied was perfect and the colours were great. Overall an enjoyable and productive 1 and 1/2 hours

Absolutely brilliant class :)
The teacher was helpful / patient and explained things brilliantly.
You get everything you need to carry on and an instruction booklet for what we learnt so I am able to go back over things and get better. I will gift this to someone at Christmas as it was so fun and beneficial :)
Thank you - I will be back

Katie was amazing. She herself is left handed, but was able to teach both ways so helped everyone. She was very patient and help 2 women who had very little/to none experience of crocheting . But even though I had some knowledge she was still able to help with my questions and point me in right direction. Very enjoyable class, and a goodie bag with Hook, 2 balls of wool and snipes. Also included a work sheet with very clear instructions on how to make your first granny square
