In this innovative workshop, you'll learn how to create photographic images using traditional and alternative methods that minimise environmental impact. Throughout the course, you'll develop skills in various camera-less and analogue techniques both inside and outside the darkroom.
This hands-on activity welcomes participants of all skill levels, requiring no previous photographic experience. The processes combine historical methods with contemporary sustainable approaches – making creative photography accessible without the need for digital technology.
During the workshop, you'll explore multiple techniques including photograms (shadow-based images made without cameras), anthotypes (plant-based photographic prints), shooting with black and white film, eco-friendly film developing and printing, and preparing photosensitive emulsions for creating sun prints. The course examines the revival of lo-fi analogue image making within contemporary art practice, along with methods for properly archiving and displaying your work.
By the end of this enlightening workshop, you'll have created your own collection of unique photographic images while gaining valuable knowledge about environmentally conscious photography practices.
The course is taught by Anna Chrystal Stephens, a practicing artist working in photography and sculpture, bringing professional expertise to this exploration of sustainable image-making techniques.
There are car parks in town including St Stephens Place which is free.
