7 hours Class size 1 to 4     label £195

Looking for new things to do in the Cotswolds? Come and learn all about contemporary furniture refinishing in the picturesque village of Blockley at this woodworking class!

In this all-day class, you'll learn the fundamental practical skills needed to paint and upcycle furniture to a professional level. Your teacher will pass on woodcare knowledge, demonstrate techniques and share handy tips and tricks that will allow you to sympathetically restore any piece of furniture — whether it’s with paint or naturally!

All you need to bring is a relatively small piece of furniture to work on, which will go through your teacher's professional process using acrylic eggshell due to its quick drying times. You'll also get the chance to discuss all types of paints with your friendly guide!

In this class, you'll cover:

  • Health and safety.
  • Concept mock-up on paper – including colours, design, and materials needed.
  • Materials discussion.
  • Stripping, neutralising and sanding/woodcare techniques.
  • Stain blocking, priming, knotting and undercoating.
  • Painting, rolling and cutting back techniques.
  • Finishes – waxes, varnishes, stains, oils, polishes.
  • Hardware discussion (student to bring hardware if needed).
  • Staging and photography.

At the end of this hands-on workshop, you'll have a brilliant understanding of furniture refinishing and your upcycled piece to take home or give as a handmade gift!

Have a larger piece of furniture you'd like to work on? Check out OP Woodcraft's two day course.

My name is Oliver Piepereit, and I’m a trained architectural interior designer with a passion for all aspects of arts, crafts and design. I’ve wanted to design and make on a small scale for many years, so I pulled away from the rat race and trained up in furniture design, making, restoration, refinishing and French polishing. Following my tuition, OP Woodcraft was formed in April 2014.

Life in the rat race was tiring, stressful, monotonous and took valuable time away from what is most important in my life -- family and health. Working in a practical, creative environment has sculpted a life that is low in stress with an abundance of escapism which I’m sure translates into my work.
