  • 5/5 from Kane Fensome, attended Jul 2026: Absolutely amazing class, the teachers were lovely lads, friendly, knowledgeable, professional and very accommodating to people who've never really done this kind of work. They were always on hand helping out if you needed it and encouraged you to really get your hands dirty. The whole experience is definitely eye opening and will definitely inspire people to take this up either as a hobby or even a career.
  • 5/5 from Paul Rendle Barnes, attended Mar 2026: Fantastic tuition, took the time to explain both safety items before we started and also why the steps needed during the metal working process to ensure the finished item I selected to make would be practical for use and not an "ornament" Recommended.
  • 5/5 from Jayden Creighton, attended Feb 2026: The teachers were very informative and I loved every minute of it
  • 5/5 from Aleksandr Mironov, attended Jul 2025: Amazing day and amazing guys! Real life blacksmithing, not tourist oriented. Allows you to be intrinsically involved in the production of your own forged tool (I made a knife). Still remember wonderful converstaions with Jose and Garry. Do not forget to wonder around. If you are lucky and Mustang garage closeby is open then chat with the owner - I enjoyed that as much as the course itself. Bring the lunch and a lot of water with you as there are no much shops or eateries around. Blacksmiths are offering coffee or tea as well. Money and time well worth spent!
  • 5/5 from Craig Parkinson, attended May 2025: Great day at Friargate Forge. Highly reccomend this experience. Gary and Joss are patient and very talented at what they do. I would love to do it again
  • 5/5 from Lee Straw, attended Oct 2024: Excellent day at Friargate Forge. Friendly, good teaching, learnt a lot, and really enjoyed it.
  • 5/5 from Stephen, attended Sep 2024: Great day one to one with Gary (blacksmith extraordinaire) very informal, learned loads and will book him for more metalworking lessons.
  • 5/5 from Nina McGarvey, attended Aug 2024: The course was great with no waiting around having long discussions about the day. The tutors were engaging and very knowledgeable; as well as very keen to give us the opportunity to make what we wanted (dependant on time available and ability) Great experience
  • 5/5 from Calam Williamson, attended Apr 2024: The guys were great, very informative and helpful. Would definitely recommend to anyone who wants to try it
  • 5/5 from Sylvie Gannon, attended Sep 2022: Very knowledgeable and enthusiastic teacher. All fine details explained at each stage. Nice pace, did not feel rushed at all.
  • 5/5 from Daniel Parvaz, attended Jul 2022: I had a great time at the Forge yesterday. Jos was welcoming and a good teacher. Friargate is a working forge with plenty of tea/coffee on tap as neccessary. I was shown the ropes and what I should be doing, then had freedom to continue [supervised] on the work required to smith my item. Good combination of hands on and instruction. Really nice bespoke item created. Thanks for a fun day!
