What you'll do
Get top tips on baking and cake decorating with this hands-on class near Shrewsbury. This class is perfect for all abilities who want to level up their baking skills.
Start by whipping up a delicious three-layered vanilla bean sponge cake using a trusted dessert recipe from your talented chef guiding the session. You'll get top tips and tricks on ensuring an even bake and moist sponge so your delicious cake tastes as good as it looks.
Once your sponge is ready, you'll then learn how to decorate a cake with buttercream, trying your hand at piping! Class sizes are kept to four so get plenty of personal feedback from your teacher.
During this decorating and baking class, you will learn how to:
- Line your cake tins.
- Level, fill, and stack your freshly baked cake.
- Crumb coat your cake.
- Make two different types of buttercream for the filling and outside of your cake.
- Make different colour buttercream and learn how to use piping nozzles.
- Use a cake scraper to achieve a smooth finish and paint the edges of your cake.
- Use a piping nozzle for extra decoration
- How to prepare fresh flowers for decorating your showstopper.
A light lunch is included in this amazing experience and you'll go home with your showstopping cake to impress friends and family.

Hi, I'm Caroline Bailey, the founder, award winning wedding cake designer and heart and soul behind Hunkington House Kitchen.
My baking love started at an early age, all thanks to my amazing Mum and Nan, who were fantastic in the kitchen, always creating something delicious. Learning from them at an early age sparked a passion that has led me on a long path to where I am now.
This baking journey has been full of excitement from baking with John Whaite, cooking with Monica Galetti, achieving third place in the Great Shropshire Bake Off and also getting through to the final 70 applicants for the Great British Bake Off. Even though I didn’t get selected for the show it gave me the confidence and drive to pursue my dream career in baking.
Having spent years perfecting my baking skills attending classes, creating the most amazing cakes for weddings and other special occasions I have taken my love and passion, helping people to create and bake deliciousness, through fun interactive experiences.
The dream baking experience for me is where people feel at ease, it's interactive and you get to learn in a fun and engaging way. So in a nutshell that's what I deliver.
It is the best job to have when you get to see first hand how proud people are of their creations and their very own baking delights, even the ones who started nervous. My aim is to create a memorable experience for everyone to enjoy and I want my classes to ooze that specialness too.
Yes I'm a little bit obsessed with all the baking delights you can create yourself, so if I can spark memories to treasure, just like the ones I hold dearly then I'm doing it right! Whether it's an experience for a public class, a private group or 1-2-1, the baking fun is waiting to be explored.
