What you'll do
Sew your own advent calendar at this Christmas craft class. You'll create your advent calendar using applique and a quilting technique known as log cabin quilting. The result will be a traditional heirloom style advent calendar that you can use forever!
Guided by an expert teacher, you'll use a sewing machine to learn how to create some log cabin quilt blocks, combining colours to create the image of a Christmas tree. You'll then be shown how to create a star block for the top of your tree. Learning to make quilted log cabin blocks is a really useful sewing skill to have as the blocks can form the basis of many different projects.
With support from your teacher, you'll then learn to hand applique some presents for under your tree. You can then take your advent calendar home and decorate it with buttons and other adornments. You may also want to make some small bags for little advent gifts, or use the pockets of your calendar to plant clues for a Christmas treasure hunt – your teacher will give you some ideas!
This advent calendar is fun to make and gives you the chance to put your own stamp on a Christmas project that you can treasure for years to come. You'll head home with your own handmade advent calendar and a range of new sewing skills to use for future projects.

I'm Sandra, owner of Kilcruik Crafts. A small one-person operation, Kilcruik Crafts is a crafting shop and creative studio in the beautiful harbour town of Stonehaven in Aberdeenshire. I wanted to create a little haven to share my crafting experience, giving people the ideal space to chill out, improve their skills or learning new ones.
I have been crafting for over 50 years. I started with knitting and crochet as a child with my granny, and I learnt dressmaking from her best friend. Over the years I have taken up many different crafts, all of which I love. I also spent many years abroad and that has influenced my ideas. I decided to put my skills to use by starting up my own business so I can pass on my skills to anyone who wants to learn!
I love all the different crafts and love nothing more than to share this knowledge and love with others. Making things and sharing crafts with others has had a calming and beneficial effect on my life, and I can't wait to spread this joy with you!
