What you'll do
Calling all the budding bakers out there who want to learn how to decorate a cake using buttercream in a relaxed environment. This class is for an adult and child (aged between 8 & 16) to join in the fun of decorating a buttercream cake.
The class will last around 3.5 hours, and you will enjoy working together to decorate a 3-layered sponge cake. Create your very own showstopper and learn techniques in a fun and relaxed way that you will want to use again and again at home.
The class size is up to 6 pairs, and being a small group, you get to ask questions all through the class. You will learn a variety of skills that will make cake decorating at home so much more enjoyable.
What you learn on the class:
- How to hold and use piping bags, a palette knife, turntable, and cake scrapers
- How to fill and stack the layers of sponge cake to get it as level as possible
- How to crumb coat the cake using buttercream
- How to get the best consistency of buttercream to ensure a smooth finish on the outside of your cake
- Some simple yet effective piping designs with 3 of my favourite piping nozzles
Skill level: All abilities; however, your child must be supervised by you during the class.
Included in the class is the use of all equipment, a freshly baked sponge to work on which you take home at the end of the class as your very own masterpiece. Hot & cold drinks plus freshly made cake will be available for you to enjoy.
This class starts at 10am and takes place at Wattlesborough Village Hall, Wattlesborough, Shropshire SY5 9DX.

Hi, I'm Caroline Bailey, the founder, award winning wedding cake designer and heart and soul behind Hunkington House Kitchen.
My baking love started at an early age, all thanks to my amazing Mum and Nan, who were fantastic in the kitchen, always creating something delicious. Learning from them at an early age sparked a passion that has led me on a long path to where I am now.
This baking journey has been full of excitement from baking with John Whaite, cooking with Monica Galetti, achieving third place in the Great Shropshire Bake Off and also getting through to the final 70 applicants for the Great British Bake Off. Even though I didn’t get selected for the show it gave me the confidence and drive to pursue my dream career in baking.
Having spent years perfecting my baking skills attending classes, creating the most amazing cakes for weddings and other special occasions I have taken my love and passion, helping people to create and bake deliciousness, through fun interactive experiences.
The dream baking experience for me is where people feel at ease, it's interactive and you get to learn in a fun and engaging way. So in a nutshell that's what I deliver.
It is the best job to have when you get to see first hand how proud people are of their creations and their very own baking delights, even the ones who started nervous. My aim is to create a memorable experience for everyone to enjoy and I want my classes to ooze that specialness too.
