Here's your chance to learn abstract painting in a step-by-step, easy-to-follow workshop. This new and exclusive activity is specifically designed for beginners – absolutely no previous painting or drawing experience is necessary!
This workshop serves as an exploration into the freeing world of abstract art. You will learn several exciting techniques, including:
  • Incorporating gold leaf with paint
  • Creating texture with impasto techniques (layering paint and using a palette knife)
  • Integrating text into an abstract composition
Throughout the session, you'll work towards producing your own large abstract canvas. It's a fantastic opportunity to embrace a more playful and intuitive style of creating artwork. You'll get to grips with a process that you can continue to explore long after the workshop ends.
This session aims to provide you with the tools and understanding to explore your intuitive mark-making and help you find new ways to express yourself through painting. You will get to take home your very own abstract painted canvas, ready to display!
About the artist...
From his studio in Chester, Jack is creating paintings that explore the mysterious world of abstraction. Working predominantly with oils and wax, he aims to create a world where turbulent colour and energetic form live simultaneously with calmness and balance, chaos and cohesion.
"My paintings portray a raw and tactile approach of scraping, scratching, layering, thinning, all the elements constantly fighting for space. I work in a very free fluid movement, creating impulsive symbols and gestural marks which are subliminally placed." - Jack Few
He charges the surface with paint that informs a world bursting at the seams, using the canvas as an arena in which to act and express experience rather than to simply reproduce a picture.
"My work, much like music, is a constantly evolving dialogue, trying to speak for itself and I'm trying to catch up. It’s a language I create but don’t necessarily understand. I love to play in that mystery" - Jack Few
Jack studied Fine Art and English Literature at the University of Chester and is now represented in a number of galleries across the country.

About Me
I have been an artist nearly all my life. I can not quench my thirst for art making, and as a result went on to study it for 10 years at the University of Chester whilst also teaching art full time. It was a pleasure and a privilege to be invited back to the University of Chester as a visiting lecturer on the PGCE Art programme. I find this part time role very rewarding and combine it with my own art workshops, classes and commissions.
I am a mum to a gorgeous little girl and have a wonderful husband, who appreciates my love of art and more than anything puts up with the mess! We live in Cheshire with our two rescue cats, Lyra and Lynx. I love running, I find it a wonderful de-stressor, and being in nature is always a good source of inspiration for my art.
I have had the pleasure of travelling widely, including backpacking around Australia in my early twenties. Life has certainly thrown me some trials and tribulations but the running thread throughout it all, the one constant, has been my art and my family, which I couldn’t live without!
