Our comprehensive 5-week dressmaking course is designed for confident beginners and those with sewing experience alike. You'll gain the practical tools, essential techniques, and lasting confidence to design and create beautiful, custom-fit clothing—long after the course ends.
What You'll Achieve Over 5 Exciting Weeks:
You'll work hands-on with a variety of fabrics and two distinct commercial patterns to craft two stunning, wearable garments from start to finish. Here's what you'll master:
Reading & Understanding Commercial Patterns — Confidently interpret markings, layouts, instructions, and symbols so you can tackle any pattern independently.
Customizing for a Perfect Fit — Take accurate body measurements and make precise pattern alterations (like length, width, dart adjustments, and more) to ensure every garment flatters your unique shape.
Professional Sewing Techniques — Build core skills including accurate seaming, clean hems, facings, linings, and high-quality finishes—using both a sewing machine and an overlocker (serger) with ease.
Final Fitting & Refinements — Fine-tune your completed pieces with real-world adjustments for ultimate comfort, movement, and polished style.
By the final week, you'll walk away with two beautifully handmade garments plus the knowledge to adapt patterns, experiment with fabrics, and create endless designs on your own—turning sewing into a lifelong creative passion.
What You'll Need to Bring:
Your own sewing machine (if you choose, we have plenty), fabric, threads, and tools. Not sure where to start with patterns or fabric? No problem—we offer a curated selection right at the academy for you to choose from and get sewing immediately. We will reach our before the course to check if you need any help with fabric.
Whether you're picking up a rewarding new hobby, refreshing your skills, or dreaming of a handmade wardrobe, this small-group, supportive course guides you step by step in a fun, encouraging environment.

  • To participate in the course, we ask that you bring your own materials and sewing patterns. However, if you don’t have a pattern in mind, we offer a selection at the academy that you can choose from to get started.
  • 2-3 meters of your choice of non stretch fabric
  • 1-2 commercial sewing patterns
