Bespoke Hand-Dyed Silk Lampshade Workshop
Create a unique silk lampshade inspired by your home, your favourite colours, or a palette that feels personal to you.
This specialist workshop is co-taught by silk artist Miu Shu, founder of Huntly Silk Painting Studio, and professional interior designer Sadie, founder of Interior Inspirations.
Bringing together two distinct areas of professional expertise, the workshop takes you through the complete creative process—from planning a personalised colour palette and hand-dyeing pure silk to constructing and carefully finishing your own lampshade.
You are welcome to bring photographs of your sofa, cushions, curtains, wallpaper, artwork, or other interior details. With individual guidance, you will select two to four colours that connect with your space.
The aim is not to copy your room exactly. Instead, you will create a colour palette that echoes and brings together elements already present in your home.
You may also work from colours inspired by a season, landscape, memory, or mood.
Miu will begin with a short, accessible introduction to practical colour relationships and palette planning. She will then guide you through hand-dyeing your own piece of pure silk, allowing the colours to move, blend, and create naturally varied effects.
Once your silk has been fixed, dried, and pressed, Sadie will guide you through the lampshade-making process. You will learn how to apply your hand-dyed silk, construct the lampshade, and finish it carefully.
Unlike a standard lampshade-making workshop using ready-made fabric, you will create both the decorative silk surface and the finished lampshade itself.
No previous experience in art, silk dyeing, or lampshade making is required.
What you will learn:
  • How to develop a balanced personal colour palette
  • How to select colours inspired by an interior space
  • How to hand-dye pure silk
  • How to prepare silk for lampshade construction
  • How to construct and carefully finish a fabric lampshade
  • How to repeat the basic lampshade-making process at home using future kits and suitable fabrics
What is included:
  • Pure silk and specialist dyes
  • A complete lampshade-making kit in your chosen size
  • All workshop tools and materials
  • Specialist guidance from a silk artist and a professional interior designer
  • Individual support with colour selection and design decisions
  • Tea and coffee
  • One completed hand-dyed silk lampshade
By the end of the workshop, you will take home one bespoke hand-dyed silk lampshade, together with the practical knowledge needed to continue exploring lampshade making at home.
Important information:
  • Suitable for complete beginners
  • The lamp base and bulb are not included
  • Hand-dyed results naturally vary, so every lampshade will be unique

  • 5/5 from Jossie, attended Aug 2026: I had such an amazing time at the Bespoke Hand-Dyed Silk Lampshade Workshop! I felt so relaxed and happy throughout the whole session — it was such a lovely, peaceful moment to enjoy. Mandy was an incredible teacher — so kind, patient, and helpful every step of the way. I absolutely loved how my lampshade turned out, the results were beautiful! The whole atmosphere was warm, calm, and welcoming. I’d definitely recommend this workshop to everyone — such a special, enjoyable experience I won’t forget!
  • 5/5 from Lynn May, attended Aug 2026: Absolutely fantastic work shop. Amazing shades made by all the ladies. All so different and beautiful ️
  • 5/5 from Aileen Rae, attended Aug 2026: This silk painting lampshade making class exceeded all my expectations. A beautiful lampshade made in an afternoon. Supported by Mandy and an interior designer it was easy to choose a colour palette to coordinate in your own room with the help of some photos of the room it was going to be placed in. The very helpful advice of choosing colours was then taken forward to mixing dye colours to match the chosen palette. Silk was coloured and then the dye fixed in the microwave. The cured silk was then attached to a lampshade frame. A beautiful addition to any room you choose. A very supportive and enjoyable afternoon course. Thoroughly recommended.
  • 5/5 from Stephanie Chalmers, attended Aug 2026: Another success for Mandy and Huntly Silk. The bespoke silk lampshade class today was so good. Mandy and Interior Designer Sadie taught us so well. How to mix the silk paints, choose the right palette for our spaces, how to dye the silk and then how to actually create the lamp shade. I would recommend this class to anyone who wants to add a unique and personal touch to their homes
