While some farmers remain focused on traditional Japanese processing methods to deliver consistent, expected flavour profiles, a bold and innovative generation is adopting international techniques to create entirely different styles of tea.
In this tasting, you’ll explore a curated selection of these less typical teas, crafted by producers who are redefining what Japanese tea can be. You’ll learn how different processing methods influence the aroma, body and character of a tea, and how to adapt your brewing technique to bring out the best in every style.
To complement the session, you’ll enjoy paired treats inspired by classic Japanese flavours, thoughtfully chosen to highlight the unique qualities of each cup. All drinks are served in beautifully handcrafted teaware created exclusively for Kissako by Justine Jenner Pottery, adding a contemporary elegance to your exploration.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll understand how processing shapes flavour, feel confident choosing styles you love, and gain a deeper appreciation for the craft behind every cup.

Where teas are offered with milk (latte style), a dairy-free alternative will be used. Accompanying treats are freshly prepared for each tasting. Please contact me at least 48 hours before your experience if you need any substitutions.
Is there step-free access?
The facility is located up stairs above Slake Spirits brewery, without a lift. Apologies if this is unsuitable.
Can I purchase tea and teaware featured in the tasting?
YES! Tea and teaware are available to purchase directly after your event. Due to the delicate nature of some items, my preference is to sell in-person.
