Silk Painting for Beginners Workshop– Solo or Duo Creation

Create your own A4 silk artwork, either by yourself or together with a child, friend or loved one.

3 hours Class size 1 to 4 guests

  £50 - £70 (£50 for Single Artist (1 Person); £70 for Creative Duo (1 Adult & 1 Child))

This beginner-friendly silk painting workshop is designed for both solo creators and creative duos.
You will create one framed A4 silk artwork using two key silk painting steps: drawing the gutta outline and adding colour onto silk.
The gutta outline stage needs a little more hand control and focus. It allows you to transfer a design from paper onto silk and create clear lines before the colour is added. The colouring stage is more playful and expressive, as silk dyes flow beautifully across the surface of the fabric.
This makes the workshop especially meaningful for parent-child pairs. One person can work on the outlining, while the other enjoys filling the shapes with colour. The final artwork becomes more than a picture — it becomes a record of shared time, teamwork and creative cooperation.
It is also a useful next step for adults who have already tried Coffee Break Silk Painting and would like to learn how to move from prepared designs towards their own ideas. If you have enjoyed colouring silk before and now want to understand how a design is transferred onto silk with gutta lines, this session will give you the foundation to continue developing your own silk painting work.
No previous drawing experience is required. Prepared templates are available, and you will be guided step by step in a calm, supportive studio environment.
At the end of the session, you will take home one framed A4 silk artwork.

It was a delight to spend time in her beautiful studio, which has clearly been arranged with deep care and attention to detail. We loved seeing the stunning range of artworks she’s created. I recommend these classes, gentle relaxed and very good if you want to learn a new craft or improve your skills.
  • 5/5 from Elizabeth Butcher, attended Jul 2026: A very enjoyable and relaxing afternoon. I ended up with a beautiful art work which I can hang on the wall. I learnt so much that I can take away and practice myself. The teacher was very knowledgeable and made you feel at home straight away. I would recommend this to everyone. Very good value for money.
  • 5/5 from Jenny Lantair, attended May 2026: To follow up on a previous class about painting silk, I returned to learn about gutta and creating my own designs. I had a great time tracing out on silk an image of some hydrangeas and learning what makes for a well prepared piece of silk to start painting. Mandy is a friendly and incredible artist who is happy to share her knowledge. Her studio space is so calm and the experience is revitalising, I'd recommend it to anyone looking to learn something new or to simply give themselves the gift of some headspace.
  • 5/5 from Victoria Macewen, attended Feb 2026: A wonderful day, we learned so much and are delighted with our creations. Mandy was brilliant, we learned new techniques and had a lot of fun.
  • 5/5 from Tatiana Wilson, attended Feb 2026: A really relaxing and enjoyable workshop. Silk painting is such a calming activity, and it’s especially great with kids—very engaging and helps them focus. Mixing colours and working with the medium is incredibly soothing. Highly recommended!
  • 5/5 from Heather Ewing, attended Aug 2025: My 9 year old daughter and I attended a silk painting for beginners workshop with Mandy as a birthday treat. Mandy was friendly and welcoming and so so knowledgeable. She fully explained step by step what the workshop would entail and we got to practice before putting paint to silk! My daughter was able to do a sand picture during set up, and then created her own pictures while I did the outline of our silk painting. While that dried we participated in a tea ceremony which was tasty and added to the very chilled vibe. Once complete my daughter was able to practice using the silk dyes before colouring our piece. We were 2 and a half hours and it flew by very quickly thanks to Mandy! 100% would recommend and it is so lovely to have something creative to do with your child! A definite must if in our around Huntly!
