Join a Hobbycraft Colleague one-to-one and ask any questions you have about your sewing machine! Need help setting up your new machine? Want to learn about how to use certain tools and accessories? Getting stuck on a certain technique? Our craft expert will share tips and advice tailored to you.

This is suitable for beginners looking to get started in sewing, providing the opportunity to get all the answers you need. It’s a great way to get a feel for your sewing machine, troubleshoot any problems you’re having with your current project in an easy, direct way or learn about features you’re not as confident with yet.

During the booking process, you’ll have the opportunity to let your Colleague know what you would like to focus on during the session. They’ll be able to prepare for a personalised workshop that answers all of your questions.

You’re sure to walk away a sewing pro, ready to take your designs to a new level!

*Please note that your workshop host will only have access to sewing machines that are currently stocked in Hobbycraft stores.

**Children 12 years and over can book onto this workshop but please note all children under the age of 18 will need parental/guardian supervision for the duration of the workshop.

Bring a friend: You can now use the £5 add-on feature at checkout to invite a friend along with you, whether you’re working on a project together or you’d simply prefer having some company during the session. Your friend can enjoy any demonstrations given, and they are free to ask questions, but they will not receive the same practical, direct one-to-one support as is offered to the lead participant.

Keeping everyone safe

At Hobbycraft, we want our workshops to be enjoyable, inclusive, and safe for everyone. Some workshops are suitable for children, and where this is the case, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for supervising their child at all times unless the workshop is clearly stated as suitable for independent attendance. Our colleagues and instructors are there to guide the activity and support a safe environment, and if any concerns about safety or wellbeing arise during a workshop, these should be raised with a member of staff straight away.

  • 5/5 from Diana Manktelow, attended Sep 2026: Very informative and helpful with practical guidance for an absolute beginner. Would definitely recommend, especially with getting the sewing machine set up correctly
  • 5/5 from Nathalie Oddy, attended May 2026: Enjoyed my hour one-to-one class with Sarah on how to get started with a sewing machine, as I'm seriously considering investing in one. Sarah was lovely and gave helpful practical advice and walked me though the basics patiently. The class took place at a big table in the store (nice and cool in this heat). I'd recommend a class to someone looking where to get started or for pointers on a specific project in a chilled setting.
  • 5/5 from Jessica Sherlock-Henry, attended Feb 2026: Sarah was an excellent teacher. We went through all the basics of the machine and she gave me so many helpful tips and tricks. We also had time to discuss my next project and go over techniques and how to avoid certain issues. Thoroughly recommend this class.
  • 3/5 from Anonymised ClassBento customer, attended Jan 2026: The trainer could have been more prepared as she had to leave a few times to obtain necessary equipment. She was not familiar with the machine I was trained on and a lot of time was wasted because of this. One particular problem involved her having to ask advice from another colleague which wasted even more time.
  • 5/5 from Amy Pegg, attended Aug 2025: Sarah was amazing! She was so patient with my nervous daughter and really took the time to explain everything we needed to know. Both me and my daughter feel much more confident with the sewing machine now. Thank you so much Sarah you really went above and beyond!
  • 5/5 from Hilary Murphy, attended Jul 2025: I am a self-taught sewer and my one-to-one workshop with Sarah put me right on lots of small details and has given me a better understanding of the features available on my machine and the confidence to try new techniques. Excellent session and great value. Thank you Sarah
  • 5/5 from Arryn Heighton, attended Jun 2025: Sarah was great at explaining everything to me in a way I could understand, especially the functions of each stitch, material-tension, and helping me to fix my 'birdnesting', and helped me to figure out where to start (smaller, simpler projects then move onto more complex pieces as i get more confident). I will no longer be afraid of my sewing machine thanks to Sarah :)
  • 5/5 from Alina Fratila, attended Mar 2025: It was an amazing experience for my 14-year-old daughter...she enjoyed it. She knows now how to set up and clean the sewing machine...and she also learned how to use the machine to do different types of stitches. Sarah was amazing... a nice, kind, knowledgeable lady...we liked her a lot. Many thanks Sarah
  • 5/5 from Grace Dickens, attended Feb 2025: Very pleasant and happy with the service now I know where I went wrong thank you would recommend to friends and family
  • 5/5 from Anonymised ClassBento customer, attended Jan 2025: Sarah was great! Lots of good advice and tips. Adjusting the lesson to my knowledge and needs Thank you
  • 5/5 from Lindsey, attended May 2024: A brilliant workshop. My daughter learnt so much and it gave me confidence to be able to help her if she gets stuck reading the sewing pattern. Sylvia was fantastic and had a good measure of getting everything covered in the workshop but checking that my daughter understood and was following all the information. The staff at the store couldn’t have been kinder or more helpful throughout the process of booking and doing the course. I am very grateful to all of them especially Sylvia, Sarah and Marianne. You made my daughter’s day!
  • 5/5 from Lucy Waters, attended Sep 2023: Really good lesson at the Banbury store today. I’m a total beginner and I now feel confident to make a start using my sewing machine. Very patient and clear, thanks!
  • 5/5 from Lilly, attended Aug 2023: Marion was absolutely lovely She was very knowledgeable, friendly and great at showing my daughter how to set up and work her new sewing machine! She had lots of fun & learnt lots. Can’t thank Marion enough she was so lovely Thank you.
  • 5/5 from Patricia Tatnell, attended May 2023: The workshop was booked to help me use a sewing machine. It wasn't necessary to take my own. Lucy was excellent & very patient with a slow learner. I will not hesitate to book a further workshop with Lucy. Thank you.
  • 3/5 from Christine Barrand, attended Apr 2022: Thought I would be able to work on the necci Jean's machine that i bought from hobbycraft. I would have taken it with me if I'd known, but it was still a useful refresher and good value.
  • 5/5 from Elizabeth Callow, attended Feb 2022: I had a one to one sewing workshop where I wanted to be shown how to use zipper foot on my machine. Workshop by Kelly was very informative. All in all great hour of tuition and value for money.
  • 5/5 from Simon Smith, attended Jan 2022: Very enthusiastic and helpful teacher who related to our 10 year old daughter very well.
  • 5/5 from Carole Rowe, attended Oct 2021: Kelly was amazing! She is a fabulous, patient, kind teacher. I went from not knowing how to thread my machine to making a small flapover cushion, trying all the stitches on my machine. Kelly helped me with shopping. Xx
  • 4/5 from Ogechi Aideyan, attended Oct 2021: Could only learn about my machine in the time, nothing more. I would have appreciated samples of stuff to explore eg patterns, threads, bobbin wheels, foot etc Things that don’t cross your mind that you need, even if some were strategically placed, it only kept my attention briefly.
  • 5/5 from Leisl Donovan, attended Aug 2021: Great class thank you so much for being patient with me as I am a real novice. Would recommend
