1 hour Class size 1 on 1       £28

Join a Hobbycraft Colleague one-to-one and ask any questions you have about your sewing machine! Need help setting up your new machine? Want to learn about how to use certain tools and accessories? Getting stuck on a certain technique? Our craft expert will share tips and advice tailored to you.

This is suitable for beginners looking to get started in sewing, providing the opportunity to get all the answers you need. It’s a great way to get a feel for your sewing machine, troubleshoot any problems you’re having with your current project in an easy, direct way or learn about features you’re not as confident with yet.

During the booking process, you’ll have the opportunity to let your Colleague know what you would like to focus on during the session. They’ll be able to prepare for a personalised workshop that answers all of your questions.

You’re sure to walk away a sewing pro, ready to take your designs to a new level!

*Please note that your workshop host will only have access to sewing machines that are currently stocked in Hobbycraft stores.

**Children 12 years and over can book onto this workshop but please note all children under the age of 18 will need parental/guardian supervision for the duration of the workshop.

Bring a friend: You can now use the £5 add-on feature at checkout to invite a friend along with you, whether you’re working on a project together or you’d simply prefer having some company during the session. Your friend can enjoy any demonstrations given, and they are free to ask questions, but they will not receive the same practical, direct one-to-one support as is offered to the lead participant.

Keeping everyone safe

At Hobbycraft, we want our workshops to be enjoyable, inclusive, and safe for everyone. Some workshops are suitable for children, and where this is the case, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for supervising their child at all times unless the workshop is clearly stated as suitable for independent attendance. Our colleagues and instructors are there to guide the activity and support a safe environment, and if any concerns about safety or wellbeing arise during a workshop, these should be raised with a member of staff straight away.

  • 5/5 from Ada Szymanska, attended Sep 2026: I just picked up a sewing machine from my mum and gave it a go. I had some some trousers that needed hemming but i didn't know where to start. As its just one thing i wanted to learn i found these private classes and decided to give them a go. Within the hour i got everything i wanted on hot to hem trousers, plus all the wee tips about the machine, needles and threads. Jillian was brilliant, will definitely be coming back
  • 5/5 from Linda Murray, attended Sep 2026: Excellent introduction by Aileen as to how to operate my sewing machine. Friendly, loads of helpful hints, compared the shop machine to mine at home so that I know where everything is. Lovely to listen to as well. Thank you

  • 4/5 from Geoffrey, attended Sep 2026: Attended a sewing machine lesson. Main reason was for trouser shortening. I already had a bit of knowledge about use of a sewing machine and brought with me trousers I had shortened. Was given tips to tidy up my work and make the job easier.
  • 5/5 from Kayleigh Mills, attended Aug 2026: I had such a good time learning how to use a sewing machine with Gillian. I haven't touched a machine in about 15 years. I've got the notion to take up quilting but don't have a specific project in mind yet, but that was no issue. We learned how to thread a bobbin, the machine, different stitches, how to turn corners. The lesson was hands on so perfect for those who learn by doing. Really could not recommend a class with Gillian enough, she is a credit to Hobbycraft Boucher.

I will definitely be going for more lessons when I come across something I need more help with. I highly recommend Gillian.

This 1 to 1 was perfect for me. It was on a level I understood. Taking into account things I already knew & providing training & assistance with gaps in my knowledge. As it was on my own machine, I left feeling fully confident in undertaking the projects I had in mind. Brilliant! Thank you so much
