Design and carve your own bookplate in this creative linocut printmaking workshop in Manchester.
Ex Libris (Latin for "from the library of") bookplates are a beautiful and personal way to mark ownership of your books – and a fantastic theme for anyone who loves literature, symbolism, and timeless design.
In this hands-on workshop, you’ll explore the traditional technique of linocut printing to create your own unique Ex Libris design, perfect to use in your personal library or to gift to a fellow book lover. You'll be guided through the full process: from sketching and carving to burnishing your prints by hand onto a selection of beautiful Japanese and Western papers.
Your friendly and experienced teacher Rachel will demonstrate each stage and offer support throughout, helping you follow your intuition and make something meaningful and personal.
By the end of the class, you’ll have your own carved linocut design, a small edition of hand-printed bookplates, and the knowledge to continue printmaking at home.
What you'll get
All materials needed to create your prints to take home.
Knowledge required
Open to complete beginners aged 16+ as well as those who have some experience.
What to bring
Bring some inspiration or a drawing or design - we will be working to A6 size. Bold designs tend to work very well for linocut, rather than lots of fine details.

I'm an artist printmaker and life model based in Manchester city centre producing personal work as well as facilitating printmaking, life drawing and painting workshops regularly in Manchester. I regularly travel for private workshops and events so I’m happy to bring the studio to you! I absolutely love watching people explore the huge variety of printmaking techniques. In addition to the pure joy of creating, making something new boosts self esteem, relieves stress and anxiety, stimulates the mind, and helps us to interact with ourselves and our community in a different way than our usual day-to-day lives. Printmaking provides the opportunity to explore and communicate our thoughts, emotions and ideas in a fun and experimental way.
I teach regular printmaking workshops at The Village Hall, Deansgate Mews as well as private 1-2-1 sessions in my personal studio at Hidden. I also run workshops for other artists, corporate events and neighbourhood complexes. So Little Lion Studio is many things, but there is just me at it’s heart. Essentially, I am an artist and workshop facilitator providing a safe and encouraging space for people to come and feel comfortable creating, exploring, experimenting, talking, thinking and feeling.
