2 hours Class size 2 to 22 guests       £40 (PayPal Pay in 3 available)

This workshop in Brighton brings together a traditional Gongfu-style Chinese tea ceremony and an introduction to Chinese knot art, held in the intimate home art studio at Flying Bear House. Designed as a meaningful way to celebrate Chinese New Year, the session explores culture, symbolism, and craft. Through learning, tasting, and making, the experience becomes a mindful practice and a sensory exploration. It takes place within a small, welcoming group.
The experience begins with a short grounding mini sound bath to help you arrive and settle into the space. No prior knowledge of tea ceremonies or knotting is needed. Everything is introduced gently and clearly, with step-by-step guidance throughout. The atmosphere is calm and supportive, allowing you to fully enjoy both the tasting and the making at your own pace.
What to expect:
  • A guided Gongfu tea ceremony, featuring a selection of three premium teas across different tea types, tasted through multiple infusions.
  • Learn about traditional brewing tools, techniques, and the cultural meaning behind the ceremony.
  • Stories and historical context woven into the tea experience.
  • An introduction to Chinese knot art and its symbolism of continuity, protection, and good fortune.
  • Step-by-step guidance in foundational knotting techniques.
  • Create and decorate your own lucky knot key ring charm to take home!
  • A small group setting with plenty of individual attention.
You’ll leave feeling grounded and connected, with a deeper appreciation for Chinese tea culture, a handmade charm symbolising good fortune, and the memory of a thoughtful cultural experience rooted in mindful practice and sensory exploration.

I’m Claire, a yoga instructor, sound healing and massage practitioner, artist and musician, and the founder of Flying Bear House in Brighton & Hove. After a fast-paced career in corporate and finance, I stepped away to slow down and reconnect with practices that supported my wellbeing. I explored many different approaches before finding my way back to the traditions I grew up with - Chinese tea ceremony, sound and traditional arts - the practices that felt most grounding, familiar and meaningful.
My sessions blend cultural ritual with gentle sensory awareness, offering a calm and accessible way to experience tea, sound and traditional craft. Everything is guided at a steady pace, inviting presence, connection and ease through simple, shared experience.
